“A Gem in Les Eyzies”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

We recently spent three nights at Les Glycines with 3 other couples on a cycling trip in the Dordogne region. We all had a junior suite and our room opened up into a lovely garden with a pool close by. The hotel staff were unbelievably helpful, the rooms were well appointed and extremely comfortable, the breakfasts were very good and the evening meal was definitely fine dining although perhaps a little expensive. We had one evening meal at the hotel but then went for simpler dinners on the other two nights. The hotel is situated on a corner very close to the railway line but we were not disturbed at all by traffic noise, possibly because our room faced the pool and the garden. Our bikes were stored in a locked garage and always easily accessible. Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: To avoid traffic noise request rooms facing the garden and the pool.

We arrived after a long and very wet bike ride and were welcomed with open arms to this beautifully appointed hotel next to an old rail station with few trains coming and going. It was quiet and lovely. It has obviously been carefully updated and restored. The young woman in charge at the front desk could not have been friendlier. It is a very short walk to the center of this small town, which includes the Musee de la Prehistoire--worth a visit for sure.

Room Tip: Doubtful that there are any "bad" rooms. We were one floor up @ the end of the hall and h...

My wife and I have just returned from a Headwater cycling holiday in the Dordogne where we spent 2 wonderful nights at this hotel.
The hotel was easily located on a main road, but we heard absolutely no road noise whatsoever from our room.
The nearby railway line seemed to only have 1 or 2 trains a day going through.
The staff in the hotel were very attentive, spoke better English than I did French (although I tried) and did everything possible to make us welcome.
The swimming pool was fabulous and quite often we had it to ourselves.
Dinner was outstanding.
Anyone who complains about the chef's creations at this hotel must be an excessively fussy person.
The presentation, quality and quantity of the food was excellent.
My only recommendation to the hotel would be to consider a few more affordable wines on their extensive and scary expensive carte du vin.
Other than that, book and enjoy a bit of luxury.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool / garden.

Hello Headwater guests, thank you to have spent time to send this so sympathetic review. We are pleased you enjoyed both our hotel and our restaurant. We also make a note of your remark about the wine list. And we're going to improve in english again, thanks to you...

As one of the other reviewers has noted, the street appeal is definitley lacking, its location being on the bend of a main raod and next to a railway station. However, the interior has been beautifully and elegantly refurbished, and the retaurant and bistro both provide excellent meals. Dinner is taken on the terrace - straight into the setting sun! There are elegant muslin curtains to shade the tables. The terrace looks down onto the park-like gardens and on down to the pool. The restaurant is something really special as was the service. There was noise from a sports club next door on the Saturday night, but apart from that it was a wonderful place to stay and to visit Prehistoric sites.

We arrived at this hotel after a long hot sticky bike ride. Situated next to the SNCF station on what appeared to be a busy road we were slightly apprehensive as we entered. How wrong we were!

Les Glycines has been refurbished from what I would imagine is the old station hotel.

It is a great mix of the old and the new. It is quite funky inside. Outside there is a terrace overlooking the garden on which you can dine.

The rooms are nicely redecorated and of a good size and air conditioned. There is a nice garden and a swimming pool.

The food and the wine list are superb. The staff are delightful.

You cant hear the traffic inside the hotel and there are about two trains a day so that is not a problem.

So enjoy.

We stayed three nights in room 19 a room with twin beds. It was all fabulous; comfortable bed, nice linens, good size French room, sparkling bathroom. The hotel itself is understated, well designed with lovely (lovely!) gardens and pool.

Stayed two nights as part of a walking tour. Newly refurbished hotel offering exceptional accommodation and facilities. Beautiful rooms in the old barn (now 2 level 10 -12 bedroom section) bit noisy on the road side but would be pleasant overlooking there garden pool area. Food was exception although one in our party is lactose intolerant was unwell from suspected lactose intake at dinner, even after they were pre warned of his issue. Good breakfast choices, extensive wine list, great service. I loved it.
