“An oasis in 'la France profonde'”

We arrived well after dark from Bordeaux airport (nightmare car delivery at Europcar) but Maxence and Catherine were on hand to greet us as we stepped out of the car. That set the tone for the holiday. A bottle of wine, cheese, bread and fruit were waiting in the kitchen and we settled down for a wonderful week (my wife, myself, our 22-year-old daughter and 18-year-old son). Truth be told, we were lazy guests, a little stupefied by the heat -- but we had some wonderful lunches in the nearby villages, plus a canoe trip down the Dordogne river, and finished most days with a swim (plus losing again to my son at table tennis!). Dinner was usually at home, prepared in a kitchen that has everything. The upstairs bedroom? Our kids could hardly believe their luck. It is remarkable. This was exactly the holiday we were hoping for, and, as someone who lived in France many, many years ago, it reminded me of what an exceptional blessing the French countryside is.

“What a beautiful place.”
Reviewed 25 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

This was our first holiday with our baby girl (18 mths) and we drove!! And what a beautiful surprise when we arrived. Had a lovely welcome from Catherine and Maxence and we were not even in the accommodation. We where welcomed with the most lovely tasting strawberries, bread, milk, cheese and red wine! What a start. The accommodation was very well presented and high chair and cot were ready. The property had wifi which worked well on laptop. There was not a DVD player but watched the ones I bought with me on my laptop as from previous experience, there tend to be 2/3 English speaking channels on the TV.
I have not added any photos because the ones on the site are great and better in real life. We had the swimming pool to ourselves and had plenty of walks in the forest.
I was very sad to be leaving.
The general area of where we were situated was okay for travelling. We visited Chateau de Hautefort which is fairly close and a must to visit and also Rocamadour which was about 2 hrs away. Closest big supermarket was approx 10 miles away on the road towards Perigueux. There also was one in Hautefort.

We are traveling with our adult daughter and her partner so we wanted a lovely place with 2 separate bedrooms and bathrooms,in the countryside, very near a village, and with a pool terrace and garden.Rather a lot to ask for but we have found it here.Often when I read the accommodation is in a converted barn I hear warning bells. Not so here. Our place is to the side of the Chateau renovated with great care with very modern kitchen and open fire and yet it is seamlessly part of the whole. We have complete privacy, and the terrace looks out to garden and the woods.Madame Catherine is a fine gardener and roses are everywhere. The property is immaculate. So we are very happy to be here and enjoyed her thoughtful provisions of strawberries and cheese and Maxence's map marked up with interesting places to go. You can trust the site's pictures,if anything this place is more beautiful and certainly larger than it looks.Wifi is strong,no problems at all.I particularly like all the windows and doors leading out to the garden and terrace. All in all a lot of thought ,expense and effort has gone into this property.

“The perfect holiday venue”
Reviewed 2 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We travelled across France in April with our two young daughters and of all the places we stayed Chez Mimi was our favourite. We stayed for 9 nights and would have liked to have stayed for longer. The cottage was beautifully furnished, the outdoor terrace opened out onto a gorgeous garden and the hosts were extremely welcoming and generous. The location was ideal to explore the Dordogne area. We would not hesitate in recommending Chez Mimi as the perfect holiday venue for couples or families.

“The Dordogne Dream”
Reviewed 25 September 2014 for a stay in March 2014

La Maine, The Dordogne Dream
Late March; we were unsure about taking holidays in the Dordogne, as our escape from the harsh Winter we were seeking a break somewhere warm. But my children (6 & 8yrs) can be persuasive and with the promise of La Maine and the slow motion world of its own far from the madding crowd we were heading back to the welcoming arms of the owners Catherine and Maxence.
We fell in love with La Maine the previous year and were already familiar with wilder beauty of La Maison de Marc where we had spent a week during Autumn (see our Trip advisor review). This year we opted for the slightly larger house La Maison de Colette et Mimi. Catherine has filled the house with a more sophisticated and decadent decoration which is cosy and very sweet . How fast we felt at home. Here the extra space was welcome as my kids are getting bigger the entire open plan top floor was their private space, they spent lots of hours playing there. The extra bathroom was well appreciated with a star treck like shower that the kids were battling to be first in.
Easter weekend fell during our stay so in French style we hid the eggs throughout the gardens. The egg hunt was truly magical for everyone. We also encountered some other lovely La Maine visitors, Nic and Paul, from New Zealand who were as touched as ourselves by La Maine and Catherine and Maxence.
What I recall most is doing my Vinyasa Flows on my mat at the back of Maison de Collette & Mimi on the terrace overlooking the meadow with the abundant lilac bushes, daffodils and bluebells filling the air with scents watching the children racing with Rothschild and Zebulon , our favorite sheep and donkey.
La Dordogne is a beautiful place but La Maine has a piece of my heart

“A delightful and tranquil holiday home”
Reviewed 4 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We stayed at Chez Mimi for a week with our 13 year old son. Le Maine is an ideal setting whether as a family or as a romantic hideaway. Outstanding facilities, exceptional hosts and a glorious location. We will definitely return to explore more that this property has to offer.

“perfect place to stay”

What a wonderful place to stay! Chez collette et Mimi by far exceeded our expectations! The ambiance and decor are truly eclectic. Its just such a lovely place to be. So tranquil either sitting on the beautiful private terrace or in the many quiet spots around the gardens or just by the lovely pool. It was hard to drag ourselves away to explore the beautiful Dordogne region!
Catherine and Maxence met us on our arrival and proudly showed us around. They are always around if help and advice are needed but keep a discreet low profile as well! There is a superb exceptionaly well equiped kitchen which if you like to cook, and we did, is brilliant. We enjoyed several al fresco meals and a barbecue using locally sourced produce from the wonderful french markets which are so much fun to visit and a great test of our french language skills.
We just did not have time to visit all the places we intended as we were happy to just spend some days unwinding and relaxing at Le Maine..A good excuse for a revisit someday!
