Stayed here for 3 nights with my husband to experience a chateau. So unique to meet the Count himself who's a family of the one who built it. He's super friendly and really helpful. The garden and pool area was lovely. Breakfast was so so though. Slept here well and thats the most important. I love that the location is a 10 min drive from St Jean de Luz city center, 30 mins to San Sebastian Spain and 20 minutes to the surfing beach Biarritz. Basically a great place to stay if you're looking to explore that area of France.

Two nights in this superb Chateau, a welcome by the Count Laurent de Coral in person was very un-expected but he insists I believe. The superior suite on the top floor served by a lift was well appointed overlooking the gardens and the king size bed was most welcoming.
Immaculate recently renovated bedrooms en suite were very comfortable as well as all amenities.
The Count gave us a personal tour of his home and a complete history of his very proud heritage.
He is a Commercial Count and makes you feel at home in his endeavours to cover his overheads in running such a unique enterprise and is open and honest at every level.
We loved the traditional breakfast and the service was excellent.
A must to visit and experience a touch of the post French Revolution.

Room Tip: Go for the superior suites only slightly extra!

Stayed for 4 nights, and really loved it. It is steeped in history, but very comfortable. The owner was wonderfully welcoming, gave us a private tour, chatted and showed us around. The gardens and woods are lovely - the pool looks nice, but in May not really an option! The room was comfortable and charming, the bathroom was modern and nice - well lit (unusual these days!), separate shower (not over bath tub) with a make-up / shaving mirror and separate loo. The breakfast was excellent, in a room in the oldest part of the chateau. Plenty of free parking. Really had a lovely time. Will definitely go back,

My wife and I spent 6 nights here with our two teenage daughters. The chateau is beautiful and the welcome was much appreciated after a long journey. We had two neighbouring rooms on the top floor with a separate door closing us off from the rest of the chateau. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable. On two evenings we ate at the restaurant run by the count's brother. This is within easy walking distance and highly recommended. Like everyone else, I have nothing but praise for Laurent, his staff and the chateau.

We stayed 5 days in this somehow unique place. We have been honoured to be received and presented the castle by the M. count Laurent de Coral, the owner of the chateau. We stayed both in the oldest part of the castle and then in a roof third floor room, good rooms. Normal breakfast for chateau. Excellent kept swimming pool. Huge garden. It is advisable to have at least one dinner to Ferme Lizarraga (preferable outdoor, very fine landscape / nice wines and menu), few hundred meters next door to chateau. The castle itself it is well placed to explore the whole region . Useless to add what to see in the region as you will have excellent advises from Monsieur le Comte de Coral!!!

Room Tip: You can choose any room.

Staying at the Chateau d'Urtubie for a week more than met our expectations. The Chateau has all the charm and atmosphere that one looks for in a European vacation. The setting is idyllic, with lovely grounds and garden, including a quiet and private pool. We had a larger room that was nicely furnished with antiques, and had a very comfortable bed with freshly starched linens. The bathroom, part of which was in one of the turrets of the Chateau, was very well appointed. We started each day with a sustantial breakfast in the breakfast room or in the small courtyard just a step outside the door. The gracious owner and excellent staff were always most helpful with any requests or advice regarding the property and the area. The Chateau is very centrally located to explore the Cote Basque region. It's a short drive to Biarritz, Bayonne, St Jean de Luz, Hendaye, Hondarribia and San Sebastian, as well as the Basque hill towns of Ainhoa, Sare, etc. We spent one evening in nearby Urrugne having dinner on the town plaza listening to a Basque choir sing traditional Basque songs. We also had fantastic dinners at the Ferme restaurant, which is a short pleasant walk from the Chateau. We would definitely stay at the Chateau d'Urtubie again.

Room Tip: If staying for any length of time, you should choose a larger room.

I reserved two nights in the chateau, and only afterwards did I read the reviews on Trip Advisor. I can hardly add anything new to what others have already said, but I would like to join in the chorus and sing the praises of this magical place.
We were welcomed to the chateau by the owner, and given a tour and brief history before he showed us to our beautifully decorated and comfortable room. We were delighted with the sense of history, knowing that the present day count's family has been there for 23 generations. The grounds are extensive and very well maintained, and in mid-July, the hydrangeas were in full bloom and added much to the beauty of these grounds. The pool is large, lovely and well maintained, and as we were there on a very hot day, M. le Comte himself brought out umbrellas for us to have poolside. We had a lovely meal at the farm restaurant which seems to be affiliated with the chateau, and is only a 200 m. walk. away.
The location was great. We went to Hendaye (ten minutes drive away) and from there, we took a small boat for a ten minute trip which landed us in lovely Hondarribia in Spain. Later, we spend several hours swimming in the ocean and sunning on the fine beach at Hendaye. Another day we explored the port of St-Jean de Luz, and enjoyed another great meal in one of the many restaurants in the lovely town. But I was happiest just being at the chateau, strolling in the grounds, sitting poolside, or having a chilled glass of rose in our rooms. (Conveniently, there is a fridge with cold beer, wine and other drinks, glasses, etc. where guests can find drinks. It is run on the honour system, and guests write down what they took, and these costs - very reasonable, I might add- are added to the bill at check-out.)
I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: We were in one of the least expensive rooms (all that was available on our dates) and we thought it...
