Nun Obeki Chambres d'Hotes

St Jean de Luz is a wonderful place, lovely beach, thriving town, great restaurant choice and a great base to tour the area. We chose this hotel based on previous reviews and were very happy with selection. The rooms are large and clean ( just wish for some better bed linen ). The hosts are very charming and breakfast is really good. Hotel is located in a quiet street with easy walk to beach in 15 minutes. Would definitely stay here again.

Much to see in the region with Biarritz close at hand, Lovely San Sebastian in Spain with striking coastal resorts further along to explore.for a flavour of real Spain. A visit to St Jean Pied de Port is a great experience being on the pilgrimage route to Compostella in Spain.Walks in the nearby Pyrenees provide great views across the ocean. The village of Sare is an interesting base for such trips with charming restaurants and hotels

We were very grateful to have found this wonderful chambres d'hotes, where we stayed for 2 nights in early July. We received a very friendly and warm welcome by the hosts. The rooms are large and beds are very comfortable. The location is excellent, it is just a short and pleasant walk into the centre of St-Jean-de-Luz. Breakfast consisted of a good buffet selection. My French is almost non-existent and Cathy can speak English very well. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Cathy was very helpful, including picking us up and returning us to our
train/bus station, keeping our food under refrigeration, even warming our "leftovers" which we enjoyed on the front terrace. The breakfast room was conducive to good conversation with Cathy, Herve and other guests. Very gracious hosts.

Stayed here the weekend of the St. John festival in June (recommended - lots going on!), and had a lovely stay. Location was ideal for us - ten minutes walk from the centre of town, in a nice quiet residential area. Hosts were very welcoming, and English is spoken if your French isn't too good. Rooms were lovely - we stayed in the main building, and the other couple that was with us stayed in an external building (looks like a converted garage, but that's doing it a disservice - I loved it!) which I particularly liked as it had a round window above the bed. :-)

If I had to criticise anything, the bracket that holds the shower on the wall in our room was broken, so had to have a shower holding the shower head myself, but that didn't really bother me.

Also, our hosts liked to be sociable at breakfast (i.e. they were in the breakfast room talking to everyone all the time), which I was very happy with as they're lovely, but if you don't like that sort of thing perhaps you'd be better with a bigger hotel where you can be more anonymous.

All in all a very enjoyable stay - will be back!

Room Tip: The room that is separate from the main building is great - self-contained and it has a round window...

This is our second review of Nun Obeki. Last year we stayed in the Chambres dhote but this year we stayed with our friends in one of their apartments. It was very clean and well furnished and well equipped and we were very happy with it. The bedrooms were spacious but the only downside was that the kitchen /living area was quite small but as we only had our breakfast there it was no problem . In the evening we had our drinks on the spacious balcony which was very pleasant. St Jean deLuz is well worth a visit - a very pretty town, superb beaches and lots of interesting places to visit nearby especially if you go further afield as we did into the Pyrenees. The charming owners Cathy & Herve made us very welcome and were very helpful . Well recommended.

We had an excellent stay at Nun Obeki in September. which was only 10mins walk from a superb beach and very pretty town and harbour. Our room was very large and comfortable (although the bed was a little hard for us ) and the owners Cathy & Herve made us very welcome and were very helpful with advice for excursions and restaurants. The breakfast was very good - cold meat , eggs, ham toast yoghurt and fruit etc, which is a nice change from just bread and jam which we have often had in France. !!The owners were very pleasant and friendly and I would definitely recommend this chambres dhote and would certainly return in the future if we were to return to this area.
