I don't speak French, and the exhibit seemed a bit outdated. But, if you are a historian, or just happen to LOVE Brest and it's founding (and you speak French) then you will probably enjoy it.
It is small, but the surrounding grounds and proximity to the water make it worth it, even if it's just for some photos.

The tower was closed when I tried to visit on a January afternoon, but offered little appeal as a view point. The castle across the harbour can be seen much more easily from the bridge above the tower or from an observation walkway about a quarter of a mile past the tower.

First, the collection of dioramas is lovely. However, no photo is allowed inside so it was a pity...
Also we were hoping we could view the castle from the upper floor of the tower but all the windows are closed so another shame.
Good thing is that the entry is free so even we only spent 10min inside, it was ok.

The views from the Tower are lovely. It is free to visit. Each level has dioramas and photos of old Brest. The wooden staircase and ceiling are beautiful. There are only 3 levels to see and easily takes about 30 minutes to view. It is just down the stairs from the closest tram stop. Make note, all of the brochures and comments are in French.

two good things, in this place.First One is this is situated in a very nice environment and the building is old and good architecture, and the second one is this free of charge. There is nothing much to see here, only few pictures and photos of old ships and documents that I guess something related to ships.Other than that there is nothing especial here but you can take nice photos from out side of this place.
