Our visit was for a dinner on 26th August 2008. I am a true amateur of rognons de veau and my wife adores a gigot d'agneau. Hence it was with great anticipation that we arrrived chez 'le boeuf sur le quai' having visited it earlier in the day and met with a delightful welcome and a discussion re the cooking of rognons de veau.
When the dish arrived before us there was a naked kidney lying on a cold white plate giving the impression that it had been boiled ready for a surgeon's dissection. There was no sign of the delicious offal having been cooked and only with greatest effort did I manage to eat less than half of this offensive spectacle. My wife had a similar problem with her gigot d'agneau. It was stewed not grilled thereby rendered almost inedible by her. The accompanying boiled potatoes and green salad were indifferent.
The claret made up for the horror of the meal. Never again for me please.
