“Very smart”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013

Arrived here after a touring holiday on France before returning to Roscoff for the return home to Plymouth. Just off season so all very quiet but the main town is only a short drive away. The Hotel is immaculate and has a lovely sunny and clean pool area. The bedroom is not huge but adequate and the bathroom is much better equipped and designed than the Raddissson Blu we stayed at in Nantes last week which has just been opened! If you want a pleasant and quiet stay with an unfussy modern design then this is for you.

Lovely place If your looking for peace and quiet. About a 1 mile walk or drive from restraunts. Ideal getaway. Breakfast a little expensive, hotel rates were fair for what you got. I would recommend a couple nights stay here!

Directly in front of the beach on the eastern coast of Carcan. Plenty of free parking and also a paying garage option.

Not very close to the center but anyway you may go walking (15-20 min)

Rooms quite functional and good looking, clean. We had a front sea view "privilege" room with balcony. Despite negative comments I like the bathroom with the open view: if you need privacy you may close the blind.....

Wi-fi connection in the room correctly working and a modern large Lcd TV SET. Complimentary coffee set available in the room, refurbished every day.

I really appreciated the relax area with sauna and hamam both very large and clean.
Negative point for the swimming pool: very cold and not heated as advertised.

Kind people at the reception even if their short opening time must be reported, during the evening and night you have to open the door with the given code.

Room Tip: avoid ground floor directly at the swimming pool level if you care about privacy

There's much to like about the Churchill. Our room was modern and clean, our balcony had fine views over the bay and its sandy beach. The pool looked inviting and clean, although we weren't able to take advantage of it thanks to the miserable weather during our stay. The staff were, generally, good - especially the friendly lady at breakfast.

There are things I didn't like. I foolishly didn't realise that we'd be a 10-minute walk away from the main bars and restaurants of Carnac Plage, which is OK when the weather is good. At night, it was a struggle (and an accident waiting to happen) finding our way with most of the street lights switched off! Our room was very small with limited storage and had a bathroom that wasn't particularly private when in the loo! The mini-bar was not very well stocked and not cold.

There was no restaurant in the hotel and a bar that you had to ask to have opened, which is all very strange in what's supposed to be a 4-star hotel. Breakfast was fine when it was stocked, which wasn't always the case when the staff were very busy.

Note that the reception closes at 9pm and you need to access the hotel with a code - again, an odd situation for a 4-star hotel.

Indeed, like the hotel I reviewed up the coast in Quimper, anywhere else in the world this would probably be a good 3-star hotel rather than a 4.

The Churchill is fine if you want to be away from the centre of things and don't mind the lack of a restaurant. If you want to be close to the action, I suggest you look elsewhere.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2013

I stayed at Le Churchill with my partner for four nights in June 2013.

We wouldn't choose to stay here again, primarily due to the hotel's location. It is about as far from Carnac as you can get whilst still being in Carnac - and its isolated location right at the end of the beach means that there is nothing at all nearby in terms of facilities - no cafes, bars, restaurants, shops etc. The nearest facilities are at Carnac Plage, which is a solid 10 minute walk away, but probably more like 15 minutes. We had a rental car, but we both wanted to go out and have a drink in the evenings, so we gritted our teeth and just did lots of walking. It's worth also mentioning that the street lights weren't turned on along the front when we were staying either, so the walk home in the evening was a very, very dark affair!

The hotel is a very modern/new building with all mod-cons in the rooms, so there are no complaints on that front. One downside was that our room was small and so storage was extremely limited (no drawers and just one small hanging cupboard).

Another gripe: glass doors on bathrooms must rank amongst the worst ideas in hotel design. In his case, out bathroom had a sliding glass door with an inch gap all around. I imagine that most couples don't want to share every 'experience' and having a solid closing door on the bathroom really is an essential in my book!

One big plus for the hotel is lovely beach/sea views.

This is billed as a four star hotel and I certainly did my homework before travelling - having looked at the hotel's website and read other reviews on this site. However, upon arrival you realise how odd it is that this can be described as a 'hotel' when there is nothing to eat outside breakfast hours. Not even from the mini bar, which was very disappointing.

The hotel's bar is a small area open for three hours a day from 5pm until 8pm.

WiFi was good when it could be accessed. It was intermittent in our room, non-existent in the breakfast room (which is in the basement) and absent by the pool. Maybe the more central rooms have better signal strength - we were in room 31, at the right hand end of the hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights recently, great location on the sea front, good view from the balcony. Very comfortable, very modern and clean.
The only problem we had was that we had to go to reception to get some milk as there was none in the room to have a cup of tea.
Also I think 18 euros is a bit expensive for breakfast, we went into town and had breakfast in a cafe.
The staff were very courteous and polite.
Very nice hotel, with a lovely pool.
