“Great bistro run by family”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2012

Unpretentious but superb traditional French bistro cooking. Run by a family who really do love their restaurant and want everyone to have a great meal and a good time. Beatrice and Gilles treated us like family. This is what Normandie is all about and the prices are right as well. We would go back without hesitation.

“Good flavours at a bargain price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2011

This restaurant hidden round a corner in the rue des Orbettes is well worth the effort to find it. Portions are generous, service is friendly and the atmosphere relaxed and pleasant. Best of all prices are very reasonable. The fish soup starter was good if unexceptional but the rabbit terrine was really nicely done - as good as it gets. The chicken main course was the plat du jour and whilst unexceptional it was tasty and only 6.90 euros. I had the rognons de veau which came in a rich and full flavoured sauce. We had cheese to finish with and a bottle of Graves to wash it all down. The bill came to 61 euros which was terrific value.

This is rustic rather than refined cooking but it hits the spot both in terms of your taste buds and your wallet.

“Superb food and service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 January 2011

We both ate excellent starters: fish soup and foie gras de canard. Main course was superb: beef fillet. We couldn't fault the culinary skills of the staff. A very unpretentious restaurant whose delicious food speaks for itself. We shall return, without any doubt. Very pleasant staff, too.

“Great service for an English person in St Malo but buyer beware!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2010

Great service, good atmosphere, however not a huge choice on the menu if you don't like beef. I also felt that the Fois Gras was a little overpriced (12€) with little accompaniment.

We did have a cheeseboard for one (between us) which was very good.

Overall though, for a meal of 80€ for 2.5 courses and a bottle of Rosé we felt this was a little overpriced for what was delivered. We don't mind paying 80€ in St Malo but expect a bit of 'wow' factor..

“Stands out against the competition”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2010

Visited here after reading about it on Trip Advisor. Just metres from the main tourist area, the atnosphere of this charming bistro type restaurant hits you as you walk in. The menu is really good value, the wine keenly priced, and the bread made in house. Even in the evening the plat du jour is available, and the other items on the menu are again well cooked and served promptly. I enjoyed the terrine de lapin with armagnac, and the jambon en croute de brioche with gratin dauphinoise, and my companion had fillet of beef with girolles. All very yummy.
I have been coming to St Malo since 1955 when a small child, and this was one of the best value, professionally run small restaurants I have encountered in the walled city.
No reservations are accepted, but go, you will not regret it.
