I thoroughly enjoyed dining at the Armoricaine in Saint-Malo. The choices and the food on the 13 Euro complete dinner was very good. The service was okay ... I think it was perhaps better for the French speakers. The Armoricaine was a nice, typical French dining experience - which is what has become a rarity in touristy Saint-Malo ... so, get off the beaten path and enjoy an authentic restaurant.

We visited this brasserie for Sunday Dinner with friends. We ate here a few years ago, and had forgotten how good it was. The service was excellent, food delicious, and price was very reasonable. The tables have white damask table cloths on them and the napkins are a soft gray cloth. We made reservations for 12:30 and they were almost full by 1 pm. You feel pampered by the service and there are many locals eating here. It is a true French restaurant. We enjoyed lamb or beef steak, small potatoes, fresh green beans, a delicious bacon and green salad, then topped it off with either chocolate mousse or apple tart for dessert. This menu was 18.90 euros per person. A very enjoyable Sunday dinner to be repeated very soon.

So many of the restaurants in St Malo are very similar but this one is just a bit different. Hidden away, far from the main tourist area is this delightful traditional little French eatery within walking distance of all of the hotels ‘intra muros’. We were recommended by our hotel to give it a try and couldn't believe our eyes with the menu du jour from only 13 Euros for 3 courses! As we had eaten well at lunchtime, we decided to take a chance on the 13 euro menu and what a lovely meal it was. Honest French fayre, well prepared, well presented with good service and a cheeky little demi Bordeaux for a measly 10 Euro. You simply cant go wrong - and the homemade mousse au chocolat is the one to watch… Bon appetite!

At last a good restaurant in St Malo a little away from the tourist trap expensive places to eat it is well worth a visit. Excellent food, well cooked with pleasant staff. A good choice is available from only 13 euros for 3 courses. We also stayed the night, the room was clean and comfortable and good value at 65 euros. We will certainly be back soon.

We have eaten here on three occasions, once two years ago and more recently twice within a week. We will certainly return next time we are in St Malo because we have always had a good meal there. It deserves to be higher up the ratings and the only reason I can think of that it isn't is because it is off the main tourist areas, although not too far to walk to from most hotels inside the walls.

The set menus offer amazing value for money. On our first July visit this year we chose the 18euro menu. The fish soup was delicious with a good choice of mains, including seafood and nice desserts. The second time this July we had the 13euro menu and were amazed at the choice offered. I chose a big bowl of Moules as my starter which would cost nearly 10 euros in some places! The service was friendly and very efficient and the restaurant is obviously popular with French diners too. The wine list was also good and it was certainly worth paying a little extra for the Muscadet Excellence which was still extremely good value at 15 euros.

Whilst not hesitating to recommend Brasserie Armoricaine, I also hope it doesn't get too popular and that we'll be able to get a table next time!
