We spent a weekend at Le Grand Hotel des Thermes Marins. We stayed in the annex which has studios and suites suitable for families. Overall ok with well equipped kitchen but I wouldn't rave about the place. The studio apartment is too small for four people, even though the hotel says it is. The two extra beds are in the hallway and gets no air and no light. The bathroom was in need of a refurbishment. The hotel is well situated for the beach and long walks along the coast.

This s the third year we have stayed here before catching the ferry in the morning. We had a small but adequate room with a great shower with all sorts of jets of water stimulating once we sorted out all the taps and buttons to push with nice toileteries, swimming cap, fluffy bathrobe and slippers but the bonus is the hotel's safe underground carpark - no parking problems and no worries about leaving a car full of luggage in a street or pubic carpark. Staff charming. Mighy try a treatment next year.

At the hotel we have had a great overall experience. Personnel is kind and elegantly professional. I highly recommend the thalassotherapy packs they can organize for you during your stay. The place has been open for decades and some of the interiors are not aging gracefully. However they continuously renovate the place to offer the best possible comfort.

We stayed here on the first night of our honeymoon, we asked the girl who checked us in could we upgrade our room and pay in full now as we needed to head off first thing in the morning. She informed us that we could avail of a special offer and it included breakfast. We were delighted with this paid our bill and went and checked in. The room was nice overlooking the beach with a tiny balcony that only one person could fit on. The hotel lobby had a pianist playing who was excellent and the cocktails were delicious.

The next morning we got up for breakfast which was okay typical buffet breakfast. We went to check out and were informed that there was money outstanding. When i told him we had paid in full the hotel receptionist argued that we had not and that there was no special deal and that breakfast was being charged at 25 euro each. He offered us 5 euro off our bill as a gesture, i told him to charge us in full that 5 euro was insulting considering wed thought wed already paid our full bill! Never would i have went for a 25 euro breakfast and just had a cup of coffee!!!!

The spa facilities were very average. The public pools in Ireland are better.

Overall i give the experience 2/10.

I booked last minute for the price advertised for a standard twin room (£140). The lobby is lovely, first impression was nice. The man at reception (seemed to be a manager) was rude on arrival, dismissive, answering the phone during checking, we were led to a smokey tired looking bedroom(like with no view that overlooked some mental rusted rooftop. I asked to change, the receptionist was unaccomodating and said "you pay the cheaper price you get the cheaper room" (!) I was under the impression I was paying for a 5 star hotel, not a 3 star. We were shown to yet another outdated tired, smokey room. We were treated so poorly and with such disdain we left, the manager seemed quite happy to refund us and offered no apology. We are two young female professionals who have stayed in many a 5 star hotels and this was not 5 star. We had to wander the streets late at night in the dark to find alternative accommodation. We eventally found a guest house at £75 (the rooms were much nicer and so were the staff. We were so disgusted by the treatment of the receptionist and the state of the rooms.

Room Tip: Unless you upgrade expect a 3star room
