We expected a comfortable and luxurious place as it has a five stars rating and we paid a five star price for a room for 3 nights.
At arrival the first impression was a hotel lobby which was very basic and cold. The room even worse, it seemed more a motel room with cheap furniture than a five star hotel room. When we made inquiries at the desk about our room and expressed our disappointment it was said the room was 'left in it's original state' when the hotel was redone and they could not help us with another room. The room was small and the furniture all flimsy veneer. The hair dryer was cheap and the shower a cramped cubicle in a bath and left the bathroom soaked because of water going everywhere. Our general impression was that the hotel is milking its location (at the beach front). It offers no charm or comfort, the service personnel were not particularly interested in our feedback. It is definately overprized. We left after two nights.

Completely underwhelmed! Staying with my family for 3 days and whilst the location and some of the dining areas are really beautiful, the rooms are small and in dire need of a facelift. Felt like I was in a retirement home....in all respects. For this price I expected more!

We were negatively surprised by several rules if you are staying at the hotel. If you are not on a "demi pension" package don t expect to get a table in front of the sea at the cap horm gastronomic restaurant even if you have booked a room for one week... Another example of discrimination is the rules applied by the "thalassotherapie" centre: you can not get access to the cloakroom if you are staying at the hotel and have to change clothes in your bedroom between the gym , sauna or/and the swimming pool. This rule don t apply to the personnes who are not staying at the hotel.... They can benefit from a locker room and don t have to face the pain to go back in the bedroom to change. We found it ridiculous and disappointing. So our tip is the following: it is better to stay in another of the hotels next to the thermes and visit them as an external guest

Thermes-Marins, Responsable relations clients at Le Grand Hotel des Thermes, responded to this reviewResponded 21 August 2015

Dear Madam, dear Sir,

We are sorry you could not have one of the tables that are next to the window at the Cap Horn restaurant. These tables may have been booked by clients weeks in advance, but all tables of our gastronomic restaurant have sea view.

The cloak room is accessible to the local clients you cannot benefit of the possibility to change in their own bedroom. We very rarely have hotel clients that would rather change or have a shower in the common areas than in their own bedroom. In that case the cloak room area is open and work with a code. I suppose the hostess didn’t understand your demande as the cardio traning room is only for the hôtel clients or Aquatonic Club subscribers.

We do appogolise and will make sure you have access next time you come over to our hôtel.

Yours sincerely

Walked in without a reservation after being let down and even though we looked terrible we were treated like royalty. We were given an excellent price for a room for four and helped whenever we asked. Really a Grand hotel in every respect.

Room Tip: the old side isn't all bad.

Rooms were very very small. Air conditioning was sparse and inefficient. convoluted and confusing hallways. excellent swimming pool. great location. very nice restaurant.
French food is good all over France...and here too it was good. We wont be returning until some renovations are done.

Room Tip: You need to have a suite but check out the air conditioning.
