Hotel du Louvre Saint-Malo
Ranked #31 of 82 Hotels in Saint-Malo
Reviewed 12 August 2013 via mobile

The Hotel du Louvre is located in the Saint Malo city centre and as such an ideal hotel for those who like the lively city atmosphere. Restaurants, shops and bars are available just around the corner and the port and beaches can be reached in a few minutes.
It's a comfortable and clean hotel with friendly and helpful staff.
The only disadvantage is that the streets are generally very noisy at night, which means that sleeping with open windows is not really an option. If you close the windows, you won't hear the street noise. But then again, there is no airconditioning in the rooms...
The hotel's parking lot is quite small. Hotel guests can purchase 24,48 or 72 hour tickets at the reception for the nearby car parks on the quais at a reduced price. Unfortunately, these car parks fill up quickly. Parking your car near the city centre of Saint Malo is a bit problematic.

We booked this knowing its inside the walls of St. Malo that we have visited before. We had a family room and double room. Rooms were ok....tired looking with peeling paint in the family room. The family room is two rooms but with another door to make them separate in a corner. Wasn't a lover of the setup having one younger child but was only one night. Parking again was a pain. We know that parking inside the walls is almost impossible unless you have a small car but we didn't realise that the outer parking has a height restriction of 1.9M ! so driving a 4x4 with a roof box this meant our only parking option was 15-20 mins up the road by the casino.
Location wise this hotel is good, however with that comes the noisiest place I have ever stayed (even noisier than London on new years eve!) It was so warm we needed to open the windows but that meant no sleep for most of us. The street noise stopped around 3am...then the bottle emptying and street cleaning started about 5am! We have stayed inside the walls before with not so much noise.
Breakfast was good....nice selection and very fresh. Staff were a mixture of friendly and unfriendly nothing bad but not exceptional.

For the euros 444 we paid for the two rooms for one night, I don't feel that happy however it served its purpose. I have to be honest and say that I would not book it again but if you can sleep through noise and want a central location for one night then its fine!

Room Tip: Tell them when you book that you do not want a noisy room!!

We spent three nights at the Hotel du Louvre in early July. The front-desk welcome was friendly and check-in and check-out were smooth. Our spacious room was on the corner so was very light and airy with windows on two sides. We didn't notice too much noise from the streets at night (Le Shamrock on the opposite corner is well worth a visit - very hospitable with a range of local beers). The bathroom was spacious and it was good to have a desk and tea- and coffee-making facilities.

Parking can be a problem in the town, particularly on weekends. We were lucky that, on arrival, there was a space in the hotel's small car park - luckier, still, that the manager offered to park our car for us. (The manoeuvring was beyond us!) We took the option of the public parking with the hotel voucher for our other nights, but the crush of day-trippers saw us having to put our car in the expensive underground carpark until they'd moved out. Not a problem exclusive to this hotel; just a factor when a town with limited space is so popular.

The hotel was clean and the perfect place for a night in St. Malo before the ferry. If staying longer you may want larger accommodations. The staff were very helpful and kind. It was a very short walk to the walls, restaurants and shops. I would stay there again.

Stayed for one night (pre ferry departure), 2 adults, 2 kids in connecting rooms, which worked very well. The hotel is within the walled old town, so although you can stop right outside the hotel to unload (park on the cross!), you have to park in the public car park on the sea front, about 5 min walk away. This car park is free between 8pm and 9am though, so it only cost us EUR4.50 from 5pm to just before 9am the next day. If you need it longer the hotel can give you a special ticket for EUR7.50 a day but you have to get that BEFORE you go to the car park rather than take the entry ticket there.

The rooms were very pleasant and clean and a good size. The reception staff were very friendly and spoke good English. Being in the centre of the town on a Saturday night, it was a bit noisy outside but not unreasonably so. We didn't have the hotel breakfast, just grabbed a pastry from a bakery nearby - there didn't seem to be any of the nearby cafes open at early on a Sunday though.

I would be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: Adjoining rooms good for families.

A hotel within the walls of St Malo, extremely pleasant, obliging helpful staff. A good night's sleep was somewhat marred by no air-conditioning and an over warm duvet. What is wrong with just a sheet and light weight blanket?

The stay experience was rather spoiled by the penny pinching policy of the management. This accommodation was booked on line, as were the other hotels we stayed at during the touring holiday. All others took credit card details on booking with payment on the day of stay. Not this one it took immediate payment, which we did not object to at the time, but did take exception at finding a further £4 deduction was made on the statement for an international transfer, not something we faced at the other hotels. The £4 charge we felt mean and petty for this reason we would not stay again or recommend this establishment.

A very welcoming hotel, well located within the city walls, with very friendly and helpful staff who very generously provided us with cups of tea while we waited for our rooms to be ready. We had 2 connecting rooms with a separate outside door to a lobby which allowed us to have the room doors open. The rooms are looking a little tired but are a good size with comfortable beds, good showers, tea and coffee making facilities and free wifi. We arrived via the overnight ferry from Portsmouth and found the hotel an easy walk from the ferry terminal. Very well located for exploring the old town and an easy walk to the bus station for the bus to Mont St Michele although would recommend a taxi to the train station.
