Definitely worth a visit. Amazing seeing these rocks. If you are staying "intra muros" then the rocks are a bit of a distance. I took a bus with my younger boys while my husband walked. I took the Line 8 bus and got off at the 2nd to last stop if you ask the driver he can tell you where to follow the signs down to the beach. My husband decided to walk the beach but found that the path is unwalkable in some areas so it took him close to an hour to find his way. Amazing views on the walk and while at the rocks.

This attraction is interesting largely because of Brother Fourre's story. Check it out on the web before going to really appreciate the site. The directions take you to a gated area where someone takes 2.5 euros per person and leaves you to explore on your own. We expected a little history, a pamphlet, something. The price is for access only. However, at low tide, the site is accessible from the beach so the gate at the top seems to be a rip-off. Right next to it is a souvenir hut that looked interesting but it was closed.

The scultptures themselves are definitely worth a look, but do read up on the site before going to really appreciate this monk's work. Also keep in mind that the pathways are narrow and slippery so wear appropriate footwear. Not a good place for unruly little children or people with a poor sense of balance.

These sculptures were carved almost 100 years ago by a priest who had suffered a stroke and lost his ability to hear and speak. He began these sculptures as a means of communication. Never seen anything like it! The ocean waves are slowly eroding the sculptures so make sure you see them before they are gone!

Not so easy to find and a dead-end; 2.50 euros to pay to go and see these cliffs carved into astounding shapes by a hermit over 25 years in the 1800's. Truly astounding; we thought they would be upstanding figures but no- this chap must have been on his hands and knees all the time. Considering this was, at that time, a remote corner of a remote peninsula, one wouldn't expect crocodiles, palm trees etc......You should walk very slowly and swivel the eyes constantly, then turn around and look again OR some carving will be missed. Also, the scenery is superb- the sea/island and islets, cliffs, wild flowers- absolutely stunning. However, if unsteady on the feet, don't go alone, the paths are narrow and rocky, there are no railings etc., just nature...
To add to this place, there is an excellent restaurant Le Benetin- not cheap but good food; if you leave the carpark (free) on foot and turn immediately right, you can walk along the cliffs to the next, charming village.

After a stroke at the age of 55, Abbé Adolphe-Julien Fouré became a deaf-mute. He still wanted to be useful to society, so he returned to Rothéneuf and started building numerous rock carvings there. Quite fascinating! The view over the ocean is superb and so is the coastline!
