“Best hotel in Saint Malo”
Reviewed 15 August 2010

This hotel was excellent. It is a four star hotel just outside the walls of the historic fortified city, but is 3 minutes walking distance from great restaurants and sightseeing. Easy to access by car, friendly reception, and state of the art modern rooms. Friendly staff spoke great English. Would totally recommend it to anyone.

We booked a two bed room for 4 nights at 140 Euro per night. Tis meangt a beautifully equipped but small room, with hardly any view of the sea.
The location of the hotel is extremely good, with only minutes to walk to the old city center or to the beach.
There is a very fine restaurant directly opposite of the hotel, with exceelent 3-course menus from 19 to 40 Euro, called "La table d`Henri".
Spacious parking is available at the Espace Duguay-Tourin, one minute away from the hotel, costing nothing during the night, but 1,5 Euros per hour from 9 am to 8 pm, with a maximum of 15 Euros per day.
We will come back to this hotel !

Company we were visiting booked us into this hotel. First impressions were very good. Clean and well positioned next to the sea. Parking can be had very cheaply in nearby public car park (7:30pm to 9am cost us just 0.80 Euro!!!!).

Luckily we were booked into one of the rooms on the top floor overlooking the sea. Not sure if other rooms on this side have similar standard, but all ours on top floor were identical.

View is superb and where the bed is, you look out of the massive glass fronted rooms straight over the sea. The tv in the living/bedroom is bit odd the way it is positioned on the wall, and you have a second sealed one in the bath/jacuzzi should you fancy a bit of tv while the bubbles come up around you. However, the hotel does not really do itself any favours as only when i was flicking switches for different lights and seeing if the curtains close electrically (which would have been great to do while still in bed on a morning) only to hear a buzzing sound. As i watched waiting for the curtains to close the ceiling started to move!!!! Yep, a THIRD huge flat screen drops from the ceiling. Colleagues in other rooms never even knew it existed till i showed them the switch.

Turning all the different coloured lights off at night took a bit of time as well while i looked for switches, etc. Items in the room were all whet you expect in a room of this price. I would look to possibly stay in this hotel again, but for the price of these rooms i might be in one overlooking something other than the sea.

Breakfast was a bit of a let down. It was not that is was bad, just not what i had expected after the room i had spent the night in or when you see the prices on the wall.

Note to hotel - show your guests to the room and explain things in the room.

We really enjoyed our stay here - it is modern, has a lovely bar and terrace with a view to the ocean (although fronting to a street), a nice breakfast, and easily accesible parking (a big plus in France!). Additionally, it is clean and new, which is also hard to find in France - we slept well here. We actually preferred the hotel's location outside the main city walls, because we were right near the beach, and perfectly placed between the old tow, and the long beach promenade. The only problem, as others have mentioned, is that you pay well for all these benefits!

The hotel and its bedrooms are all new and nicely decorated etc. as others have said. The location is convenient and the aircon seems to work OK so we could shut the window and not hear any vehicle noise from the fairly busy road. We did hear a little noise from the other bedrooms but nothing problematic. The main issue we had was the beds which were very uncomfortable and sagged in the middle. We were shocked at how bad they were in an otherwise new and nicely furnished hotel. That, and the size of the room which was very compact. We paid 170 euros a night B&B and at that price I was definitely expecting something larger than our so called 'Superior Room'. We complained on checking in and were told all 'Superior' rooms were a similar size and anyway, the hotel was fully occupied. Apparently we are the only people to have ever commented on the small size of the bedrooms which I found hard to believe. Some other TA posters have said the rooms are spacious, I can only assume they are exceedingly small people.

The size of our room was comparable to that of budget chains we have stayed in but bear in mind they have usually been about half this price. The shower rooms are very decent but there is no bath if that is your thing. Don't expect to soak in the jacuzzi either, a glass wall separates it from Reception where you would have to parade through wearing your swimsuit, they don't even provide dressing gowns. Its definitely one for exhibitionists only - we were there for two days when the hotel was full and never saw anybody use it. Breakfast was fine but there is no way I would pay 14€ for it if it had not been included in our extortionate rate. This is amongst the most expensive rates I have ever paid for a hotel anywhere but, disappointingly, amongst the worst value. All in all we might stay again but only if the rate was under 100€ and if we test the beds before unpacking.

great location, 5 min walk from walls, right on sea front. We never heard any noise while we were there. We had a 1 year old and a dog and we had pleanty of room. The car parking is a bit pricey and very limited room for manouvering a people carrier. the breakfast was expensive at 14 euros. apart from the cost we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend any one who can get it cheap to stay there

The only downside to this hotel in St Malo France is that it isn't within the old town walls, it's a few minutes walk away between the dock and the beach. That said, St Malo is full of over-priced tourist trap rubbish and most of the hotels 'intramuros' are small and have no view (cos of the wall!).

This hotel opebned recently and I arrived there exhausted after racing a yacht across the channel. I looked a real mess when arriving, unshaven, soaking wet and probably a little ripe. They were so helpful, found me shaving gear and asked how the race went (we won)...

The rooms are very chic and modern, with those glass fronted bathrooms that are open to the room. Not good for sharing unless you are VERY intimate. On your own though, perfect. Like a dream dorm room from a super luxury student hall of the future.

I'll be using it again. Just remembered that I think they charged 29 Euros for the internet, but not sure. Check before you get ripped off.
