“wouldnt go back if it was free!!”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

We stayed here on the first night of our honeymoon, we asked the girl who checked us in could we upgrade our room and pay in full now as we needed to head off first thing in the morning. She informed us that we could avail of a special offer and it included breakfast. We were delighted with this paid our bill and went and checked in. The room was nice overlooking the beach with a tiny balcony that only one person could fit on. The hotel lobby had a pianist playing who was excellent and the cocktails were delicious.

The next morning we got up for breakfast which was okay typical buffet breakfast. We went to check out and were informed that there was money outstanding. When i told him we had paid in full the hotel receptionist argued that we had not and that there was no special deal and that breakfast was being charged at 25 euro each. He offered us 5 euro off our bill as a gesture, i told him to charge us in full that 5 euro was insulting considering wed thought wed already paid our full bill! Never would i have went for a 25 euro breakfast and just had a cup of coffee!!!!

The spa facilities were very average. The public pools in Ireland are better.

Overall i give the experience 2/10.

“Not a 5* star hotel”
Reviewed 1 January 2014 via mobile

We have booked a night in the renovated building of the hotel but were provided with a room in the old one. When we arrived a receptionist told us that we will be provided with bigger room as compared to ones we have booked but nothing about the fact that it is very old room with terrible smell.
When we entered the room it smelled like a hospital. We called the reception and asked for the room which we booked on the hotel website and only after couple of minutes of explanations were provided with what we want. But no excuses were provided, moreover we were told that the hotel is fully booked, and we have to be happy that there is available room for us despite the fact that we booked a room on a hotel website with confirmed availability.

Cheating on clients it is not what you expect from 5* hotel.

Despite the fact it has spa and thelassotherapy, due to the case mentioned abive I would not recommend the hotel to any one.

“"I'm a romantic; a sentimental person thinks things will last, a romantic person hopes against hope that they won't."”
Reviewed 26 December 2013

F. Scott Fitzgerald must have stayed at the Grand Hotel des Thermes. It has it all: iconic beach; wonderful hotel; international guests and wonderful service.

The thermal baths are extraordinary; the legions of believers show up early for their cure and proceed to a nice breakfast in terrycloth bath robes.

The summers are wonderful and the winters are moody. Bring a lover or a pad and pen. You will be inspired.

The beach, hotel and environs make this destination magical. Don't wait for it to end go as soon as you can with someone you love. You'll discover a magic that is unparalleled.

“Information on the Aquatonic Spa”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

Aquatonic spa

Entry to the Spa costs 54 euros for two people. This gives access to the pool and Hamman. You must wear a swim hat (even the follicly challenged). Most people wore the soft ‘beanie’ type hat that is purchased at the desk for three euros each.
When you enter the spa there is a pile of towels, we wandered back later and got an extra one to use one as a pillow in the hamman or sauna.
There is a water dispensing unit in the changing area. The lockers require a 20 cent coin but you can get change from reception.
The spa has lots of different areas with water jets. It is a salt water spa. There are two hot tubs areas both different. The hamman near the pool is very steamy. If you walk along the corridor there is a sauna and more traditional hamman which many of the people did not seem to find.
We spent 3 hours here. There were no sun loungers. We arrived at 1 pm, it was very quiet. By 2.30pm it became busy. We only saw adults no children. Take shampoo, conditioner and body wash as well as your swimsuit.
The spa opens 9am-8pm every day except Sunday. On Sunday it opens 9am-1pm then 3pm- 7pm.
We got a number 3 bus to Courtoisville, this stops very close to the hotel. The bus map at the stop is fairly easy to read. You pay the driver two Euros. To return we walked back along the coast path which is very nice, it took 30 minutes of slow walking to reach the carousal at the edge of the walled city.

“but the staff...”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

The location of this hotel cannot be faulted. We stayed in a suite in the newer wing which has rooms that feature contemporary furnishings and decor.
The staff in this hotel are either good or bad, no in between. The staff at reception border on rude or just extremely unmotivated. The same at breakfast, you can be very lucky and get very nice staff or all the way around.
The spa was amazing, very nice staff, doing their job with joy and technical knowledge.
The dinner at the restaurant was pleasant. I will recommend this place, mainly, because of the spa and the views.
