We stayed at a hotel with a view of the beach and loved to sit and watch the way that it changed so dramatically with the tides. The beach itself is soft and sandy with some small shells. It is nearby St. Malo and also has views of a fort and several small islands. It's a particularly nice view at sunset. We didn't actually go swimming so I can't say whether the water is cold or not. However, walking out onto the beach at low tide emphasizes how far out the tides go as it is a significant walk, particularly when compared to most beaches.
