“Lovely hotel, great location, great breakfast”
Reviewed 13 November 2011

The hotel is located in the historic center of Saint-Melo and is just a few seconds away from the beach. The room was small but very nice and clean. For our last night, the owner Mireille, a very lovely, caring and funny person, offered us a room with seaview which was not available for the first two nights. She was also serving a handmade delicious breakfast, with a little special surprise every morning.
All in all, it was a heartwarming place and we will definetely come back again!

We booked this hotel for 2 nights in October, but left after 1. Why? The rooms were so tiny that there was no place to put 2 suitcases except on the floor. Also, there is no air conditioning, no fan, and no way to create a cross draft without leaving your door open -- the afternoon sun heated the room so much that it was still hot the next morning, even with the window open all night. Finally, the bathroom is so small that it would be impossible for a heavy person to get in and out of the shower; we're thin and it was difficult for us to contort ourselves in and out.

On the positive side, we paid a premium for a room with a sea view and the view was lovely. Also, the breakfast was nicely done. And finally, the two owners are lovely ladies.

Having read that the rooms were small, I was expecting smaller. Personally we came to St Malo to visit the place, so a small, cosy, clean room didn't bother us in the slightest. Most hotel rooms are small intramuros. The hotel reception/breakfastroom is very cute. Mireille is a real character. She is of course, a mind of helpful information. You need a sense of humour (which probably why some stick-in-the-mud French people (coincées)) don't seem to have taken to her, especially because she used the familiar word for You (OMG!). Breakfast is original in that it's like a small 3 course meal...perhaps a little verrine of fruit and yoghurt, a mini fruit salad, a bowl of croissants & sweeties, and a surprise which changes daily (we had a pancake with salted caramel and apple mmm! & the next day was a chocolate mousse from which we managed to escape). Escape? Well yes. The breakfast service is not rushed & arrives bit by bit, so people tend to start to leave their table and Mirelle shouts "no! what about the dessert? sit down, sit down" so everyone politely sits down whilst everyone else is in stiches of laughter because we knew what was coming. Some adults seem to be embarrassed by this but you either cope with it with the humour it deserves or you die of embarrassment. As I say, when I discovered it was to be chocolate mousse, we dived for the lift in a fit of giggles. But then I am English and my French husband isn't typical French). Personally I enjoyed feeling a part of Mireille's little family, it felt as homely as when I go back home to Manchester & not frosty, cold "you're a stranger" French. For us, she made the experience much more enjoyable. I would definately return, without a doubt, she's a lovely lady just trying to give her customers the best, original experience possible. Bed=comfy. Location= 5 star

Nice hotel..small and quaint and right by the water. The two ladies that run it are very sweet and helpful!!! Breakfast is served downstairs beside the main lobby and include croissants, fresh fruit and juice, coffee and each day a specialty if you so desire. Rooms are clean but very small....however in this area they are all small. We took an ocean view room on the upper floor. Very nice and the salt air through the two windows led to a great nights sleep!!!! It is also close to many bistros to eat at and only a 7 min walk to the centre of town. Very nice.

Room Tip: Get the ocean view!!!!

I am at a loss how anyone can say the Mireille is unhelpful - I had a constant string of email communication from her from booking our room to arriving there! The hotel is truly fantastic yes we were given one of the smaller rooms but it was ample for our needs and unlike some hotels there is a lift (albeit for one person or two children/stick insects).

The breakfasts were fantastic €8,50 a day and the quality and produce were top notch I cannot understand how this hotel is only a two star establishment - I have been in three stars that simply do not compare.

Add to this you are a couple of minutes from Bon Secours beach (with its sea pool) and a similar time from the shops and the magnificent cathedral. EVERYTHING is at your finger tips!

Mireille is lovely, yes her English is limited but we got through (and the last time I spoke French was years ago!)

Room Tip: Fourth floor rooms have sea views but the area is so quaint save yourself the additional charge and...

The lady who runs this place (Mireille) is adorable! She is wonderfully friendly and warm and relaxed (she will call you 'tu' from the start). I'm not sure how her English is as only spoke to her in French but I noticed English guests there so I guess she does!
She will happily chat with you on where to go, where to eat and what to do!
Rooms are small but immaculately clean. Comfortable bed with nice sheets and towels and soap; shampoo provided. TV includes a couple of English channels like BBC News.
Breakfast is possible for about 8.5 euros, although St Malo old town is full of places to eat at delicious viennoiserie, creperies, seafood restaurants and bars!
Good value for this area - St Malo old town isnt cheap and is very touristy. Although when we visited in mid September it was wondefully quiet, especially in the evening when most other tourists have left.

We booked a Friday night stay (22nd July) via the hotel's website and provided card details by e-mail to secure the booking, then received confirmation of the booking from the hotel by e-mail. Upon arrival we were told that the hotel had mistakenly booked us in for the Sunday, and there was no vacancy for Friday. The receptionist/manageress/owner(?) claimed to have advised us of the error by e-mail (which has still not been received), although I had also provided my mobile phone number. An alternative had been booked by the San Pedro, but not one we would have chosen. The experience spoilt the end of our holiday.
