“What a hidden little gem”
Reviewed 17 July 2013

We were returning to St Malo for a weekend break and just fancied a nice small hotel in a brilliant location but not at Hilton prices. Well we found it and if ever a hotelier deserves to succeed it is the owner of this small hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and the breakfasts were just fabulous and a credit to the owners true hard work and dedication. We were two middle aged couples and we had rooms on the second floor and yes they are petit, but that just adds to the overall charm and ambience of the place. The owner recommended restaurants and things to do. and was just fabulous during our stay. We will be back and already looking forward to staying at the San Pedro

We chose the room with a view of the English Channel, although small, we were very comfortable. Who stays in your room anyway in a place like St. Malo? We were too busy checking out the sites in town and the area. And when we were there, the beach and city wall were just steps away from the hotel. We took evening walks along the wall and opened our window in the morning for a beautiful view. Our hostess, Mireille, could not have been any more accommodating - she is a gem and well suited for her profession. Her breakfasts were creative and delicious, offering a different menu every day - at a very reasonable price. Room was spotless, bed comfortable - everything you need including a hostess that makes you feel at home.

We spent one night at Hotel San Pedro, and yes, the rooms were small. But they were clean, and the staff was cheery and very helpful, and the location was perfect for exploring Saint-Malo. I would suggest paying a little bit extra and getting one of the rooms with a view of the sea. None of the rooms seem to have many extra frills, but if you want a clean, safe, reasonably priced hotel this is the place. I would certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: For travelers with disabilities - the hotel does have an elevator, but it is incredibly small and wo...

Stayed here 2 nights, yes the rooms are small but what do you need a large room for, most guests are only here for a few nights and we just showered and slept as we were out most of the time.Very clean rooms and ample to eat for breakfast, right next to the beach and quiet location. The owner is very nice and helpful, breakfast on the second day was chaotic due to the fire alarm being fixed and lots of people arriving at once so it was in stark contrast to the first day, but that sort of added to her charm, as she was muttering to herself trying to organise things. The small rooms are the price for being in the walls but its no big deal to me. Sound choice.

The Hotel San Pedro was a lovely small, clean hotel in a wonderful location at a correct price. In Saint-Malo for a Congress, I had no desire to pay well over 100 euros at the conference hotel for a twin room. The San Pedro fit exactly what we needed. the hotel was impeccably clean and the room while small was very well laid out and completely functional. My mother and I had two suitcases each as we were in France for a total of 3 weeks. the room was well laid out enough to accommodate our luggage without problem. Murielle went out of her way to make my mother, who speaks no French, feel welcome and comfortable. Breakfast is served with a small and a small verrine each day. the bread and pastries though were quite ordinary. I would certainly return and recommend the San Pedro to others.

Stayed here for one night and I couldn’t wait to leave. I am shocked that people call this hotel “charming.” Knowing that this was a 2-star hotel, I booked the more expensive room with a view, hoping to get a nicer room. Well, the room was tiny and basic; more like a dorm room, with no charm, personality, or space. The bathroom was minuscular too. The sea view – was just a patch of water over the roofs. There was a double bed taking up most of the room. I think, it might have been smaller than a double. There was hardly any room for our suitcases, and when we opened one suitcase, it took up the rest of the room not occupied by the bed. The mattress was way too soft. Between the small bed size and the mattress, we slept very poorly. The elevator was so tiny that we had to send our suitcase up one at a time, with no accompanying human. The two of us barely fit in the elevator, we had to snuggle to have the doors closes, and we are not big people. I thought this was a very sad place, couldn’t wait to get out. The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that it was clean.

We stayed at the San Pedro in St. Malo on our way to explore Brittany and we loved it! The hotel is small, the rooms tiny, but the location is perfect and we found everything we needed, including outlets to charge our telephones, laptops, etc. The hotel was super clean, but most important for us was the warm reception and care we received from the hostess, Mireille.
She was very helpful, she even made phone calls to a car rental company to get us a better fare. And when we left for Dinan, Mireille called few hotels to get us a fair price, she even recommended us to our next host! We had never seen that before!
The high point of our stay was our daily breakfast, a new menu everyday, all prepared by Mireille in her tiny kitchen - fresh local specialties we had never seen. I brought one recipe home and will try to duplicate it back in the US if I find the ingredients.
All and all, the San Pedro is a great place to stay in St. Malo, we will definitely go back.
