We found this restaurant via Tripadvisor. It is located a bit on the edge of Beaune centre, has a modern nice design and the friendly efficient staff makes you feel welcome. It is definitely not a cheap restaurant but we had a great time here, had a very good dinner and a nice bottle of wine from a good wine list. Especially notable was the of "egg a foam of white wine and parmesan" and the main course of duck with a sauce of cherries and pino noir. Very well done and very tastful.

Can recommend and will certainly return myself if I come to Beaune again.

I went to a lot restaurants in my life, from all different kinds and prices.
I can go on and on telling you about the different kinds of food we tasted, but I can summarize and say that each of them was bad, just not tasteful at all. There's wasn't even one dish we liked and thought was tasty. My husband is not picky with his food and he even didn't finish his food. And to add to all of that, we paid a lot of money. Waist your money in a different place.

My wife and I appreciate good food and are always willing to pay a premium for quality - but there are few things that bug us more than a bad, expensive meal, and that is exactly what we got at Cheval Noir. From the start, it was awful. A plate of stale appetizers arrived, followed by an ice-cold lobster bisque that had the consistency and temperature of gelato and even some shell as an added bonus. We hoped things would get better from there, considering we had opted for the 60 euro a piece tasting menu, but sadly it did not. Next came some sort of ill-conceived lobster quinoa combination that looked like a chef trying to force the two together and coming out too clever by half. Next came the main course, a filet mignon. Mine was actually pretty good, but my wife ordered hers medium rare and it was barely even pink. The wine paired with the courses was fine, although one of the reds was chilled to the temperature one would expect to come with cheap beer, not red wine. Cheese course was ok but my epoisses was again the temperature of ice cream. Not the sort of thing one would really harp on other than expecting a fancy meal in a French restuarant to be anything but sloppy to the point where a soft cheese is just pulled out of the freezer and served. Even the desserts looked like they had been sitting pre-made in a refridgerator all day. My wife's creme brulee was ice cold and clearly the sugar had been burned at opening time if not yesterday. All in all, a horrendous meal for a steep price. We have had better meals at pizza parlors for one tenth the price. By the end of our meal, the experience was so bad it had become a running joke. Would not recommend to anyone. The one bright spot was the servers were polite and attentive.

Visited with a party of 6 people on the 12th of September. We all love good food and good wine but from the start it was all a bit stiff and pretentious.
We travelled the Burgundy region and had sampled much of what was to offer in various restaurants and cafes, almost all of them offering great local produce without extortionate prices.
Le Cheval Noir was unfortunately disappointing. Stiff service and the food might have looked good but was not spectacular. Some of the canapes were just inedible and most of our group were disappointed with the starters, so much that we had to send some back as the Escargo's were so overcooked they were like biscuits. There was no apology just a look down the nose as if we had no right to complain.
Unfortunately it was too late to swap restaurants otherwise we would have done so.
All in all very fancy looking but mediocre food and the total bill was a serious amount higher than the previous restaurants we had visited.
Our experience here was not good so personally we would not recommend this restaurant.

Le Cheval Noir came recommended by our hosts in Beaune and it exceeded expectations. We enjoyed one of the dinner tasting menus with accompanying wines, the food was excellent, the wines well matched and the canapés and amuse bouche were a delight, and the price represented good value.
