We were fortunate to get a same day booking - they already had a English speaking tour scheduled that we could join. Even though it is a little expensive, this was the best tour/ tasting that we did while in Burgundy. Rafael was very knowledgeable and the caves are fascinating and so very ancient. During the tasting he brought out a couple more wines for us to try which was very appreciated. He also had a great "show and tell" of rock samples from the different growing regions of Burgundy. We come from California and don't have much knowledge about French wines but after our tour of Joseph Drouhin we felt like we were starting to get a handle on French wines.

We have toured the winery and are members of the Domaine Drouhin Oregon wine club so we were already big fans for the Drouhins. Aside from that I have read 'Wine & War' so I was fully aware of the significance of this location. Despite that, the tour and tasting still exceeded my high expectations. The walk through the cellars (which are huge) is really cool and it serves as a great history lesson before you get to enjoy fantastic wines.

If you're coming from the US, I recommend joining the DDO wine club (1 case per year) before coming to get the tour & tasting in Beaune for free.

We did not book ahead, so we were unable to take the tour, but we had an outstanding time during our tasting. The gentleman guiding us through the wine was outstanding and really added to our enjoyment. We really enjoyed the wines and taking several (!) home. We were also interested to find Joseph Drouhin also owns a vineyard in Oregon and was selling American Pinot Noir at their store as well!

We were lucky enough to find an opening (tours are usually booked by appointment only) on the exact day we were visiting Beaune. To be honest, we didn't expect to enjoy the tour as much as we did. Initially we thought we would just do the tasting (20 euro), but our teenage son convinced us to take the whole tour (35 euro per person. quite high, but worth it) and it turned out to be a very special experience. This is one of the best wineries in town, and the tour will take you into a world of underground mazes and cellars, hundreds of years old. The wines we tasted at the end of the tour were excellent, and we even bought a couple of bottles to take back home with us (if you do buy wine, make sure you pack it properly, especially if you are travelling by car, otherwise, with the summer sun, you risk finding a bottle of vinegar when you come back home...)

After suffering the abysmal Parisienne attitude for three days, it was lovely to visit Beaune where the people were friendly and actually smiled at you. Popped in at Joseph Drouhin's for a bottle of wine. Didn't have time for a tour, but the staff was friendly and helpful.
