“Impressive and worth a visit”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

This was the most important part of the history of Beaune. It's very interesting and worth a visit. At night, the building is part of the light animation tour.

“Very good value for money”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Very interesting museum and they got an unique angle since it's a hospital. The audio guide (in english) was very extensive and interesting. It can get really busy there in the afternoons in the high season. We arrived in the morning, but decided to explore the city first. Later we had to stand in the line, but it moved quickly.

“Beautiful Altar Piece”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

Nicely reconstructed. The audio guide was informative but a little hokey. Most information is available on any guide book. Overall, well worth a visit. Very significant historical site in Beaune. Must see the altar piece.

“L'Hotel Dieu: A true story of caring for the poor”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Hotel Dieu brings you back in the 15th century when one of the richest man in Burgundy, Nicholas Rolin, has decided to do something special for his poorest Burgundians: a unique combination of hospital and chapel where the dying people found care and sympathy. The pacients received free healthy meals from nuns.

I found Hotel Dieu very interesting; there are two pacient rooms, one dedicated for the poorest patients and one established for the wealthy patients; it is so visible that the last ones were more likely to survive based on the hope displayed on the paintings art.

Don't pass by without checking on the Last Judgement painting of Roger van der Weyden. This is a piece of art full of symbolism: with mercy on His right, see lily, and judgment on His left, see the sword, Jesus oversees the final judgement.
For me Hotel Dieu is a highly recommended, not to be missed attraction in Beaune.

Fantastic - a must visit when in Beaune. I believe you can buy tickets online and save queueing time.
