Quick summary: lovely luxury stay; good location for in-Beaune location and touring Burgundy.
This hotel is a complex of old mansions and courtyards, tastefully decorated in the mode of the historic luxury of the area. We stayed three nights in room #116, Montrachet. The room is very spacious with a canopied king-size bed, sitting area with coffee table, spacious writing desk, lots of drawers and good closet space, in-room safe, etc. Polished hardood floors. It overlooked the back courtyard garden, and was a quiet room.
I love the fact that the beds have high quality sheets and blankets. I find the duvets that more and more hotels use are much too warm. It's easier to adjust the comfort level with traditional sheets and blankets.
The large bathroom has two sinks; separate tub and shower; separate toilet area. Lovely towels, robes, and slippers. Also: washcloths! (not as common in European hotels as in the USA.) Lotsof room for your own stuff on the vanity and little cabinets. The toiletries have a lovely herbal smell, and consist of soap/shower gel mounted to the wall (a trend in a lot of hotels in all prices), bath salts, massage oil, as well as other nice amentities like shoe polishers. My only issue with the wall-mount soap is that it was on one side of the 2-sink area, i.e. some walking around if the two of you were using the sinks at the same time.
Free wifi throughout, but it seems to work better in the lounge than it did in our room.
Excellent housekeeping. The staff are very helpful, friendly, and professional.
The location is right in town and an easy walking distance to restaurants, the Hospice, etc. The park in town seems to sponsor music events at midday, which was also enjoyable.
BReakfast is continental-plus 19 euros, and pretty good. It includes the expected fruits and juices, nice pastries and breads, some meats and cheese, etc. For another 3 euros you can get a cooked-to-order omlette or other eggs, which was also pretty good.
The public areas are quite nice -- lounges, a small cocktail lounge, breakfast rooms, and a garden patio where breakfast is also served in nice weather.
I give them high points that they know how to serve a proper cup of tea. When served, the boiling water has already been poured over the loose tea in the pot. Many places make the pretenious mistake of bringing a pot of hot water to you with a bag on the side. A good tea immediately needs boiling water! (But the bar is also nicely stocked.)
Parking is in a secure adjoining enclosed lot. I forget the surcharge, but it is nominal and the lot very convenient.
I strongly recommend that you join the Small Luxury Hotel loyalty program. It has no fee, and benefits often include nice perks. I cannot claim that the amenity is offered everywhere based on availability, but we've had some nice upgrades (which I'm sure this room was) and the continental breakfast included. My experience here and at other SLH's makes me want to seek them out wherever I go. These hotels are not cheap, but they are always quite nice and the perks offer very good value.
Check out the Moroccan restaurant up the street -- very good, and a nice change. The menu was undergoing change, but out couscous dishes were very tasty.
