We spent 2 hours with Pierre tasting many many white and red, cremant and creme de cassis. What a wonderful experience! We get to taste and appreciate the difference between village, premier and Grand cru. We also learnt that some village wine that is so close to the premier cru is as good but easier on your wallet. We left with 6 bottles to carry with us and 24 bottles to ship home. They just arrived to Los Angeles in great condition. We may call up Pierre again if we need to stock up more wonderful burgundian wines! Thank you Pierre.... Gift & David

From the outside this place looks a bit suspect, but let me assure you it is the real deal. We didn't have an appointment to we tried to just walk in, they were in the middle of tastings with a few groups so we felt a bit odd just walking in, but once we asked about making an appointment Nicole said we could come back in a hour no problem! When we returned we were treated to a blind tasting of 7 whites, 8 reds, 3 sparking, and a black currant liqueur. Both my husband and myself know about wine so the "class" in the beginning was a bit boring, but we still learned a few things. We wanted to learn more about burgundy wines and we definitely did. This tasting gave us an opportunity to sample wines from various parts of burgundy and really assess the differences in each. The best part, it's free!!! the husband and wife team are fabulous, friendly, and very knowledgeable. She even had a 12 bottle wine sipper so we could bring back wine to the US with us. I would definitely recommend tasting here for novices and experts alike.

I have been a long time viewer of Trip Advisor and I felt compelled to finally join after both a visit to Pierre and Nicole at La Cave de l'Ange Gardien as well as Spanish Trails in Barcelona. Words cannot desribe how incredibly helpful these two were as well as how informative and enjoyable the tasting itself was. After deciding on the drive to Lyon to spend the day in Beaune instead, our first stop was to book this tasting for later in the afternoon. Not only did Nicole get our tasting booked, but upon hearing of our change of plans, she kindly offered to cancel our lunch reservation in Lyon as well as helped us decide on a lunch plan in Beaune which turned out to be the one of the best of our entire two week trip.

In addition to the above-and-beyond customer service and just overall helpfulness to two travellers in need, the tasting itself was unbelievable. The wine of Burgundy can be very intimidating with an incredible amount of history and politics in addition to the emphasis on terroir, which requires an intimate knowledge of the geography of the region to truly understand the wine. Pierre helped to both remove some of this intimidation with the idea of the blind tasting as well as begin to unravel the mysteries with his detailed follow-up to the tasting. Truly an enjoyable experience either for someone just looking to enjoy the tasting or for the curious traveller hoping to understand what makes Burgundy wine what it is. As many others have mentioned, the fact that the three hour tasting is free of charge (although you will want to and should buy some wines as a result) is absolutely incredible. I have not experienced this level of detail, quality of presentation, sheer enjoyment, and customer service by many other very expensive tastings, much less one that is free of charge. Needless to say, my wife and I were very happy in our decision to spend the day in Beaune rather than Lyon and that is by-and-large thanks to the incredible hospitality of Pierre and Nicole.

4 of us tasted at Cave de l"Ange Gardien this afternoon - we've tasted at many other places in many countries, but this was special. Nicole knows each of their wine's character, terroir and provenance and does a wonderful job of building a great tasting experience. To quote her: "It is difficult to buy wine in Burgundy - there are so many to choose from so you have to taste them all". We can't beat that as a philosophy for life.

Nicole guided my husband and I on a two hour experience of tasting and discussing the unique characteristics of regional burgundy wines. The wines which cannot be found in the US wine market were selected to represent the regional vineyards (i.e., climate, soil, grape). Each wine did have definite different taste expressions which made for a delightful taste adventure. Also, Nicole shared sparkling wine and a black currant liqueur which they produced at their winery. There was an opportunity to purchase our favorites ones and have the them boxed to easily carry then safely stow on the airplane. Regrettably, we did not take advantage of this opportunity. However, the next day, we did return and purchased the black currant liqueur and one bottle of wine.
Unfortunately by the time we figured out that we could manage carrying more bottles of wine, we had left the Burgundy region. We wrapped each bottle with purchased bubble wrap from a large supermarket then layered clothing around the bottles in the suitcase. No breakage occurred during the return flight. Moreover, US custom officials did not tax an additional 3 purchased bottles from the Alsace region. If they had charged us, the tax would have been nominal and worth it to bring back these unique wines.
