“What more could you want!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2013

We had a ground floor room overlooking the street and we had no noise problems at all. We had booked the gourmet weekend which included 2 restaurant meals and tickets to various sites in Beaune & a pass for Dijon. This was a special treat and we weren't disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were unobtrusive yet there when you needed them. The only downside is that tea & coffee making facilities in the room would have been nice.

We are very grateful for the kindness of your comment and so pleased to have made your stay be special. We made the choice of a 24-hour-room service rather than self-service because it is part of the service and attention we want to give you.

We thank you for chosing our Hostellerie Le Cèdre and sure hope to have the pleasure to welcome you again in the near future!

The hotel is situated on a main thoroughfare in Beaune that is really busy first thing in the AM and during the "rush" hours. The ground are extremely attractive and quaint and the lobby bar and sitting areas are especially inviting.
The staff is friendly and very accommodative. The hotel features the restaurant Le Clos de Cedre, a one star michelin, and it is an absolute delight to wander over to the restaurant and have that short walk home.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable, but one could clearly make the argument that they are on the expensive side. But hey, this is Beaune, France and you get what you pay for. The entire city is within easy walking distance and this hotel is very accessible.

We were "on the fence" with this one.
Great welcome; very helpful staff; room for our kids right next to ours (as requested), dog catered for and concierge took care of booking a very good restaurant for dinner. No complaints and, to that end, definitely 5* standard.
Where Le Cedre falls short is the standard of the rooms. Our (3) rooms seemed to be in the middle of a renovation project. Carpets, some of the decor and furniture as well as part of the bathroom was recently updated - and that to a very good standard - but the rest was not. I would have expected lavish curtains at the window but, instead, there was a fabric covered shutter. The minibar was a stand-alone fridge next to the wardrobe, the shower cubicle a tiny 70 cm x 70 cm affair with a 80's style plastic sliding door. The hairdryer (also 80's) had just enough power to exert a warm "breeze" of air and 2 sockets had to suffice for mobile phone charging, laptop and hair straighteners. No aircon either.
Breakfast was good but no more than that with scrambled egg as pale as, and resembling the consistency of, porridge. Whilst we do speak french, I would have expected the staff to speak English (or any other language than French).
Location, ambience and service has all the foundations of true 5* but lack of some of the basics cut it back to 3* or 4*.

Room Tip: There are rooms that are not in the renovation transition phase. Ask for a room that has been fully...

Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion. We are pleased you appreciated the warm welcome and the commitment of our staff who spontaneously responded to your queries throughout your stay.

About your harsh comment regarding the rooms, we are kindly asking you to acknowledge that two of the three rooms you had were completely renovated, obviously not according to your personal taste. All our rooms differ from one another and it would have been helpful for us if you had expressed your expectations upon reservation. We would have found a more suitable room for you, for example on the 1st floor, with curtains and walk-in shower.

We took note of you negative feedback about breakfast as well.
Last but not least, if we accept criticism and suggestions, we don’t really appreciate the spread of false information. Indeed, all our rooms are air-conditioned.

Kind regards,

We had a family room for 4 people (including 2 nearly grown up children). Walking distance to everything in the beautiful town of Beaune. Obviously a fine hotel; we had a magnificent meal in their starred restaurant, sipped cocktails in the beautiful garden and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service is inconspicuous, professional and assured without necessarily being friendly or warm. A renowned, luxurious hotel in a wonderful place. My son was disappointed that there was no gym or pool - cant have everything I guess.

Room Tip: We had a loft room - very steep stairs so avoid if this is a problem for you.

This hotel was OK, but very overpriced since we had just left a Relais and Chateaux property that was phenomenal and our Jr Suite there was less expensive. The hotel lobby was quite handsome, and if in inclement weather, would have been very comfortable. The room itself was a little dreary in color, all gray, but seemed very clean and bathroom was well done and very clean as well. The outdoor terraces were very lovely, and a great place to have a drink and breakfast in the morning. Otherwise, I can say that all in all, it was not worth the expense.

Thank you for taking the time of a comment. We are sorry not have met your expectations although your frustration was meant to be if you dare to compare two hotels that actually can’t be compared with each other!

It just doesn’t make any sense to us to expect a Relais & Château property with a few acres land when booking a private charming hotel in town… Therefore, we shall recommend that you check the hotel website carefully before making a reservation in the future in order to avoid such an unjustified disappointment that kept you from enjoying your stay to the fullest. Indeed, our hotel has its own unique character, warm, cozy and elegant, and the whole team of the Hostellerie Le Cèdre sincerely feels concerned about the well-being of our guests throughout their stay.

Kind regards,

We stayed only one night-and unfortunately it rained-but this hotel exceeded expectations. The room rate was reasonable, and the hotel was fabulous. Rooms were spacious, with high quality bathrooms and accessories. The hotel staff was knowledgeable & friendly, speaking both English & French. The location is perfect, just a short stroll to town center. We enjoyed a large breakfast buffet the next day with special touches like cooking our own farm eggs (if you choose) and a variety of specialties. We'll definitely return for a longer stay next time!

Thank you very much for sharing your positive impressions. To make you feel happy throughout your stay is the reason why we do this job with commitment and belief. It is so nice for us when we succeed. Thank you!

We are also pleased that you liked the eggs from our own farm. These eggs are from Marans hens that are well-known for their tasteful and beautiful dark-brown eggs. Indeed, we run a major cattle breeding farm for Charolais beef, famous for the meat quality and we recently started with a small egg production as a special treat for breakfast at the Hostellerie Le Cèdre!

Looking forward to welcoming you again…

From the restaurant recommendations to the location on the edge of the old town. This was a great hotel and we enjoyed the view out over the garden terrace. Longing around gazing out our window eating cheese and drinking local wine was the number one priority. There is a great bakery as you turn right from the hotel entrance and walk 50 metres down the street.
