“Excellent choice for Burgundian cuisine in Dijon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2013

We loved Chez Leon. We wanted traditional Burgundian cuisine in Dijon and opted for Chez Leon over other options.

The beef beef bourguignon was tender, flavourful, and had the right amount of Pinot Noir -- enough that the sauce had a rich taste without overpowering the dish. The green salad with a red beet Vinaigrette dressing had the right amount of oil and just a hint of vinegar. The wine the proprietor recommended perfectly suited our dish.

We actually found the manager/proprietor the previous referred to was in fact very friendly. While the menu wasn't in English, his effort to help us make sense of the menu in his English was exactly what we needed. He conversed with us on a couple of occasions and even served us a complimentary French-style grappa at the the conclusion of our meal.

The price was also not unreasonable. About 65 Euro for two entrees, two appetizers, two glasses of wine, and two desserts

Highly recommend this place. We would definitely return.

“Avoid”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2013

We read the reviews and checked this place out, but sad to say it was quite disappointing...the guy who seemed to be the owner (shaved head behind the bar) misunderstood our order (the menu is French only and there is very little patience with you sorting it out) and started raising his voice and was quite rude and unprofessional about it. If you don't speak fluent French you might find this a humiliating and unwelcoming experience. If the food had been mind-blowing that would've helped, but some the bœuf bourguignon was so full of fat it was inedible...definitely can't recommend:(

“Terrific dinner in restaurant filled with locals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 April 2013

Superb boeuf bourgignon and outstanding scallops in a brown butter sauce. Requested a simple salad and was served a work of art, dressed with an incredible walnut vinegar with freshly grated mustard dressing. Chef provided the recipe when asked. Just came off a week-long cooking class in Paris. This restaurant is a gem-performing better on these standards than similar highly acclaimed meals in Paris.

“Nice winter lunch. Very friendly atmosphere.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2013 via mobile

Nice lunch today. All three of us had the menu for Euro 13.90. First, velouté des lentils, topped with cream whipped with lard (I know it sounds weird) and a drizzle of cassis. Perfect for a cold February day. Main course was blanquette de beau with rice and leeks. Again, great winter comfort food. Dessert was a hot pear crumble, although one of us opted out for crepes Suzette. Both were very good. Service was fine and Leon seems to greet everyone who comes in. Would come back again for sure!

“Excellent typical french food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2012

We decided to try out chez leon on a beatiful thursday evening. My girlfriend ordered the steak tartare and i had a lamb dish with risotto. After barely 15min our dinner was served by a charming waitress. The food was exquisite and accompagnied by a fine house wine. We had the fondant au chocolat as desert, which was delicious. The interior of chez leon is authentic and cosy. The price is very reasonable. We paid 50eur for two main courses, a 50cl karaf of wine, a desert and a coffee.
