“Interesting and varied collection”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

High quality medieval art is well represented but there is a very worthwhile collection of moderns as well. The modern section can be a little tricky to find and this section is closed over lunchtime.

“Interesting gallery inside the Ducal Palace”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

Stopped off to have a look while on the Owl trail. Seeing some of the inside of the Ducal Palace was part of the attraction as well as an extensive exhibition of art. Due to time, I targeted the old Flemish masters and similar style artist. The tombs of some of the dukes are also here.

“World class in every respect”
Reviewed 30 June 2014 via mobile

Dijon's municipal art gallery has to be seen to be believed, and eclipses many national collections the world over. Pre-Renaissance art may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the works assembled here take your breath away and look as if they were painted yesterday thanks to fastidious cleaning. Then there is the building itself, shiny and new, and housed in the former palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. My only gripe was the cost of the iced tea in the courtyard cafe, but considering entry is free of charge, it was a modest price to pay to see art as you've never seen it displayed before

“A 'must see' in Dijon for art lovers!”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

There are two sections of this fine arts museum, located in the former noble residence of 'Philip, the Good Duke of Burgundy' built around 1450. The Medieval and Renaissance collections are in the 14 rooms renovated between 2008 and 2013 and this is an absolute knock-out exhibition of wonderfully restored ancient artworks set in a stunning contemporary environment. This is possibly the best visitor site in Dijon.

The other section of the musée includes works from the 16th to 20th centuries and there are plans to renovate this section between 2015 and 2018. This will be a welcome development as this section sadly needs it. It's hard to think that these two sections are within the same museum.

Staff in both sections of the musée were very helpful to both French speakers and visitors alike. There are small lockers for storing bags or jackets during your visit, and a trendy café on the ground floor ideal for a coffee break or snack.

Confirm before visiting, but at time of our visit the musée was open daily except for Tuesdays and public holidays. Entry was free, a very pleasant surprise

“A must - visit.”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

Even if the Middle Ages is not your thing you must go and check out this recently restored establishment. Apart from having a wide and varied art collection from the beginning to now the building itself is a pleasure to explore.
And when it is over 30°C outside, I mean a real pleasure...
