OK, so it is a bit pricey but belive me you get what you pay for. We had a very large double room with its own garden/seating area. A quick trip up the steps and you are in the hotel garden which has an outdoor pool, a spa, lots of seating areas and thoughtful touches for children too. I could not fault the room and the bathroom must have been designed by a woman - hurrah! For the first time ever everyhing was included and in the right place. It even had a little dressing table with great lighting and the hairdryer next to it. Simple things but so many hotels get it wrong. The only downside is that a three day stay can be a problem food wise - even I can't eat micheline food every night and there is very little else in Saulieu. However, we had a room picnic and the staff happily provided us with crockery and cutlery.

Room Tip: Downstairs rooms have the benefit of a garden area.

We stayed here for 3 nights during a trip to Paris and Burgundy. When planning our trip, we put a reservation on hold 6 weeks in advance, then found out cancellation would evoke a fee. Usually this hotel would be above what we like to pay, but the experience was one of comfort, charm and exceptional service. The location was further from "the wine trail" in Burgundy than we had anticipated, situated as it is in a nondescript village, but within driving distance from both Beaune and Chablis.
We enjoyed a beautifully appointed room with a huge bathroom and a terrace overlooking the garden. At night there was perfect silence, and the bed and linens were outstanding. All we missed was coffee in the room in the morning...of course available from the room service menu.
There was a gorgeous little pool area, and various nooks to enjoy a drink, served by the ever-attentive staff...there was no bar [but Yes to billiards and library], therefore we missed the opportunity to meet other guests.
We ate dinner in the restaurant on one occasion. The service was phenomenal and the food as to be expected for 3 stars...but memorable mainly for the price. Otherwise, we ate in the village...limited choice and hit-and-miss, being in other [way lesser] hotels nearby.
Overall, the ambience and service are top-notch...but at a price.

the room is quiet, the view on the garden is very nice, bathroom is superb, bed mattress a bit soft for us, the little entrance is very convenient, if you want to sleep well in the dark, ask them to not only close the curtains but also the outside shutters. The breakfast is ok, but their coffee could be better. The outside pool is nice and having a drink around is very relaxing, The service and the people are awesome.

Room Tip: All the rooms are différents so discuss with them to get what you will like the most, I will recomme...

Make no mistakes this is a very lovely hotel. We stayed in their smallest room and whilst compact and bijou it was very comfortable and well maintained. The hotel is a Relais and Chateau and hence the service is fantastic from the moment you arrive when your car keys are whisked away shortly before your car full of wine is whisked away so that the wine isn't if you get my drift. Its always handy staying somewhere that has a locked secure garage on the home leg from France back to the UK. The pool in the back garden is fabulous and a great place to relax with a drink after a long drive.

Bernard Loiseau restaurant has three Michelin stars and the menu degustation was a triumph of traditional french gastronomy....just not that exciting....brilliant but trad. Expect to pay for this level of gastronomic perfection....it was probably one of the, if not the, most expensive meal we have. had.

So we diverted across France just to visit this legendary restaurant for its food, but we didn't realise we would find such a delightful room, garden, swimming pool as well. The food was absolutely top notch as was to be expected, including the breakfast on the terrace the following morning. Frog's legs were fantastic, even if you were squeamish before you went!

My wife and I enjoyed the most lovely lunch here last week on the occasion of our 25th wedding anniversary.

We were so warmly welcomed (it was sunny, which helps!) and, for our aperitif, we were conducted to the terrace, which overlooks their beautifully-kept garden, where we were comfortably seated in the shade of a large parasol. About half-an-hour later, we were shown to our table in the dining-room, where we had the most delicious meal -- it was quite the BEST meal I have eaten for many a long year.

All the while, the smiling, cheerful staff were delightfully attentive and yet not in the least intrusive -- sometimes a difficult balance to strike, but they managed it with great professionalism.

The Manager, who was very charming, came out to the terrace to say hello and talked with us most engagingly for a little while.

Price-wise, actually I consider the cost of our lunch extremely reasonable, especially when one considers the high quality of food, the best wine that money can buy and a level of service that is sadly so hard to find these days --- all were second to none.

Bernard Loiseau is a place I shall certainly return to as often as I possibly can.

Our only disappointment is that we had decided to stay overnight, not at Bernard Loiseau, which in hindsight we should have, but in a thoroughly grotty big-name, low quality establishment just outside Vézelay, the accommodation of which quite spoiled our anniversary and the food was nothing to write home about either -- but that's for another review elsewhere!

I staid for two nights and enjoyed one evening Bernard ' s classic dishes and one dinner the creations of partrick betron
The three ingredients creating a great dish of Bernard are just beautiful. The nowadays dishes of Patrick shows he is a GRAND chef worth his 3 stars.
The bedrooms are just beautiful the service personal and attentive and the breakfast far above norm French breakfast
