“Very pleasant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

We had dinner at L'Epicerie in early June. We showed up at 7 and got a table (didn't have a reservation) but soon the restaurant started to fill up - so either book or go there early.
The food was very nice, my onion soup as a starter was actually excellent, very mellow and flavoursome. The service was also very nice and accommodating. Our waitress (the owner?) suggested a local wine which I quite liked (my hubby not quite so much). We sat outside, literally quite next to the rampart of Chateau d'Amboise. All in all, very pleasant.

“One of the better options in Amboise”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2014

My husband and I ate here for dinner while we were in Amboise, and had an enjoyable, if not spectacular, meal. I very much got the feel that the restaurant caters to foreign tourists, since the menu seemed to favor more heavy beef dishes than what I was used to seeing in France. That said, the staff was very welcoming, the food was good, the cost was reasonable, and if you do not speak French, there is an English menu.

“recommend while staying in amboise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

my wife and i ate here recently while staying in amboise. the woman who seated us (who i suspect is the owner) could not have been nicer; same for the waite staff. we both had the 35 euro menu and were very happy with everything we ate; both of us had different fish options which were delicious. then came the cheese platter-if i remember correctly you could opt for as many different cheeses as you wished. awesome. very good reasonably priced wine list. overall one of our most fondly remembered meals of our recent trip. would recommend.

“Excellent value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

We came to Amboise directly from Paris, and we were happily shocked to discover that we could treat ourselves to a gourmet meal here for about the same price as a bottle of wine in a Paris restaurant. We booked a dinner reservation here a day in advance (highly recommended - others were turned away the night we came). The service is so leisurely (not SLOW, but perfectly paced) that they only book a table for one set of diners per night. We were there for 2 1/2 hours, and somehow the pace seemed perfect. We chose from one of two prix fixe meals consisting of a choice of appetizer (pate or escargot, among others), an entrée of steak or locally-caught fish, a cheese course and dessert, but wished we had ordered ala carte instead, as there was so much food that we were forced to leave much of it uneaten. The restaurant is in the shadow of the Chateau Amboise, and an after-dinner stroll along the streets and the river is highly called for after such a large and tasty meal.

“Enjoyable meal, lovely service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

Nothing wrong with joining L'Epicerie for dinner. This was on father's day - not that we saw many children with their parents - and fully booked. We got to our table at 21:15 and were the last too leave. Food was good, tables a bit close together so we ended up chatting with our American neighbors on one side and our German ones on the other. We were very pleased with the company, but it is not for everyone. The cheeses were amazing, and so was the confit de canard. Recommended!
