“An upmarket B&B”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

We booked at short notice and had to take a suite which was very comfortable indeed but fairly pricey. The room was huge with a king size bed, settee, and table and chairs. There was a separate dressing room and large bathroom with both bath and shower. Although close to the centre it's located on a quiet street. Breakfast is comprehensive - nothing warm but perfectly acceptable. But a few niggles. A half litre of water on the table would normally be complimentary at this price but came with a price tag of 4 euros. The advertising bumf claims that there is wifi access everywhere but the owner knows full well that the signal does not reach the first and second floors. Finally one has to say that there is quite a lot of noise from the room above. How much of a problem that is will depend on the behaviour of those above and how sensitive one is to noise. Ear plugs did the trick for me. Overall an enjoyable and comfortable stay in spite of the niggles and the price. The standard rooms are probably better value for money.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor are probably quieter.

Stay at this beautiful hotel on my first visit to the Loire Valley. It was everything I expected this manor style would be. The view from our window was of the beautiful Chateau d'Amboise. The hotel is in easy walking distance to all major attractions in Amboise. Our bedroom and bathroom was very clean and large, The staff was very attentive, professional and spoke perfect english. The breakfast area was bright and felt like you were having breakfast in a charming well to do estate. Everything you would expect to be served for a full european breakfast was fresh and well presented. I would definitely stay at this very welcoming, clean and inviting Boutique hotel again.

Room Tip: No elevator to the 3rd floor

Great location in beautiful town. Hotel in lovely setting. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Enjoyable stay.

A couple of points would have made it perfect: the wifi only worked in public areas and there was no fridge in the room (and it was hot in Amboise).

We'd stay again.

Ps there is a bike hire shop very close and we loved cycling a small part of the Loire Velo

I booked this hotel as a home base to visit the Loire Valley chateaux and I was not disappointed. When my husband and I arrived, we were shown to our "room" which turned out to be our own private little building! I'm not sure if all of the rooms are like this but I actually booked one of the less expensive rooms at a very reasonable price of 150EUR per night. When you walked in the door, there was a staircase leading up to a loft and seating area. (Interestingly we discovered on the second day that the channels in the loft appeared to be different than the channels on the tv in the bedroom, so if you are looking for English channels, go upstairs.) The first evening, we enjoyed a bottle of wine at a little table in the courtyard in front of our little "cottage." The staff was very accomodating, and the breakfast was extra but really exquisite... delicious and in a lovely little dining room. The hotel was quiet but really no more than a 2 minute walk from the center of Amboise... a small town but a lovely home base for visiting the chateaux and with a beautiful chateau of its own, as well as Le Clos Luce (Leonardo DaVinci's house), another great place to visit. Overall a wonderful experience at Le Pavillon des Lys!

We would definitely recommend staying here. Large, beautiful rooms and helpful staff. We were also pleased to have chosen Amboise as a base, neither Blois or Tours were as nearly charming. We stayed on the second (top) floor which was brilliant, but squeaky floorboards made us feel a little sorry for the people below so might be a good idea to request the upper floor. Another review suggested children were not welcome; we travelled with an 11 year old and this was not the experience we had. She was treated with the same respect as us. Assiette patter and wines were good value in-room. Only criticism is the restaurant recently closed and we asked the front desk to make a booking for us at a local restaurant for the next day but when we turned up they were not expecting us and were fully booked. Otherwise an excellent experience.

This was a one night stop over on our way through France. Lovely hotel, excellently appointed, room very stylish.. Just two niggles. Our bathroom was large and well equipped with a corner bath but the only shower was a hand held one over the bath, no shower curtain. The other niggle was no restaurant on site. Don't let this put you off though as there were lots of restaurants to choose from within easy walking distance, and the hotel staff will book for you. Free parking on site.

Room Tip: Ours was a second floor room with no lift. If climbing is a problem for you ask for a room on the f...

We stayed 7 nights at this hotel in a corner junior suite. We drove our car through the gate and realized this place was very special. The hotel staff throughout our stay were simply the best. The hotel is very charming and has an outdoor area to enjoy wine and cheese. We felt we were in a beautiful private home.
The location is in town and we easily walked to the attractions.
We would definitely stay there again. It was a wonderful hotel with excellent staff.

Room Tip: Book a junior suite for a special treat.
