Owner description: With the dawning of the Renaissance, the mighty medieval fortress of Amboise gave way to a royal residence, during the reigns of the Kings of France Charles VIII and François I. The Court, a large number of men and women of letters and European artists, stayed here on invitation from the sovereigns, one example being Leonardo da Vinci who lies here in peace in the Château’s Chapel. This place of high renown in the History of France boasts an exceptional collection of Gothic and Renaissance furniture illustrating the artistic finery of the first French Renaissance. After a visit of the Royal House and the impressive Cavalry Towers, the walk continues in the magnificent panoramic gardens overlooking the Loire river.

Nice area for stroll along the banks of the river and shopping for groceries. Locals are very friendly. Shops are nice. Especially a book store near the information centre.

Easy to walk to, quick to visit. The grounds are nice and provide a great view of the river and town below.

One of the best Castle to visit in the region. Take the audioguide and walk the tour. Nice decorated and a perfect garden. The view over the river "la Loire" is nice. If possible chose a sunny day.

There is much history to this chateau - Mary Queen of Scots, Leonardo da Vinci, Charles VIII and Anne of Bretagne, François the First, Huguenots and on and on. The audio guide tells it all. Permit yourself 2 hours to fully enjoy the grounds, chapel, views from the towers, the horse ramp and so many features. There is a historical show presented during the summer tourist season a few times a week later at night after sundown. 400 city volunteers participate. Although the narration is in French, the spectacle of costumed performers and horsemen and gymnasts make it entertaining even for those not fluent in French.
