Owner description: With the dawning of the Renaissance, the mighty medieval fortress of Amboise gave way to a royal residence, during the reigns of the Kings of France Charles VIII and François I. The Court, a large number of men and women of letters and European artists, stayed here on invitation from the sovereigns, one example being Leonardo da Vinci who lies here in peace in the Château’s Chapel. This place of high renown in the History of France boasts an exceptional collection of Gothic and Renaissance furniture illustrating the artistic finery of the first French Renaissance. After a visit of the Royal House and the impressive Cavalry Towers, the walk continues in the magnificent panoramic gardens overlooking the Loire river.

Sorry to be repetitive, but the view is simply amazing.
Kids loved imagining the young royals peering at the townsfolk below.
The chapel is beautiful and the grounds lovely.

After visiting several different chateaus in the area we weren't sure we wanted to add one more to our schedule. But with this one we were not disappointed. The Chateau d'Amboise is a charming place full of history, beautiful gardens, and plenty of things to see. The views of the town of Amboise and the Loire river were breathtaking. Being at the burial site of Leonardo da'Vinci, was amazing. Go to the top of the castle and enjoy the view. Also don't forget to check out the cave under the castle where they have wine tastings.

The view from the chateau is impeccable! A lovely chateau located up high and right in the centre of the town. The gardens are also very nice.

This is one of the most important castles in France in terms of historical importance, serving as the royal palace during the Renaissance and the home of the Valois kings. I found the 16th century terra cotta floor tiles and a number of tapestries from the same period most interesting. This castle is also the first architectural expression of the Renaissance in the Loire Valley, with many Italian elements. The garden is small but boasts a real Cedar of Lebanon. And Leonardo da Vinci is supposedly burring in a chapel on the castle grounds. There are also TripAdvisor reviews for this castle listed under Chateau d'Amboise.
