Owner description: At the invitation of Francis I, Leonardo da Vinci came to live at the Château du Clos Lucé and stayed here for the last three years of his life, devoting himself to perfecting his inventions. Leonardo was prolific and inspired, working as an engineer, architect and theatrical director, organising lavish festivities for the Court. At his residence 300 metres from the Château Royal, he drew up plans for a model château for Francis I in Romorantin and designed the double-helix open staircase in the Château de Chambord. The Château du Clos Lucé is dedicated to showing and explaining to the public the great knowledge acquired by the Italian Maestro.

Leonardo da Vinci is buried in chateau d'Amboise so it's interesting to visit his last home beside the chateau. The king of France at that time gave him the house and an income. They became very close and he could see the kings chateau from his home.
It's a very comfortable manor decorated much more simply than the chateau next door- obviously.
The grounds are lovely too- you can take a walk around.
There are plenty of mock ups of Leonardo's designs in the lower floor and out in the grounds. It's certainly a great place for kids but I think adults will find it interesting too. I enjoyed my visit. It's only a short walk up the hill when you come out of chateau d'Amboise so it makes sense to visit both.

Lots of interactive things for the kids to play with. Super interesting to see all the inventions and explanations. Worth the visit, esp if you have kids.

We biked here from Tours which took us about 2-2.5 hours. The bike trail was very nice. We bought tickets in advance from the office of tourism for 1 less euro each. The entrance is a bit pricey comparing to the other castles we visited, but it is well worth it, especially if you are interested in learning all of the Leonardo Da Vinci's inventions. He spent last 3 years of his life in this chateau, and this is where he completed Mona Lisa. You can check out all the models of his inventions in the basement and then in the park. You can take a nice stroll through this park and then get a bite to eat.

Visit the place that a genius like Leonardo da Vince spent his last three years is remarcable, thereis a lot of interesting information, and a lot of prototipes of his inventions, so much fun! And there is the exact bed where he died, very touching.

An utterly brilliant and fascinating place. The reality is, the painter and inventor only spent the last few years of his life here, by invitation. However, you get a full on Leonardo experience here, and find out things about him, that I guarantee you never knew.

The basement of the house is dedicated to all of his inventions, of which there are miniature models showing you exactly what he did. The best part, is that these inventions are replicated in the gardens (large size) and allow children (and adults) to get involved. It's a very sensory experience for the children.

I had looked on the website before I went and it stated that there were art workshops for the children, but this was not the case when we got there. So, check before you go by calling them.
