Owner description: At the invitation of Francis I, Leonardo da Vinci came to live at the Château du Clos Lucé and stayed here for the last three years of his life, devoting himself to perfecting his inventions. Leonardo was prolific and inspired, working as an engineer, architect and theatrical director, organising lavish festivities for the Court. At his residence 300 metres from the Château Royal, he drew up plans for a model château for Francis I in Romorantin and designed the double-helix open staircase in the Château de Chambord. The Château du Clos Lucé is dedicated to showing and explaining to the public the great knowledge acquired by the Italian Maestro.

Lovely setting in the Manor house and gardens, very interesting models and history of all the inventions with translations. Great grounds to walk around, take good shoes as you will cover some distance. Cycle parking in the gardens by reception but the entrance price is one of the highest in the Loire!

Great visit here, not expensive. Outside areas extremely good with play area for kids. Inside interesting displays and working models, with demonstrations on tv screens, great for kids and adults alike. I learnt a lot about this great man. Two cafés with food available, great ambience.

The house, 15th century brick, is nice enough. The association with Leonardo da Vinci is interesting, and the models of his designs, constructed from his drawings are fascinating. The breadth of his interest and the ingenuity of his designs is quite extraordinary, and this largely leaves aside his abilities as an artist. What a man! The gardens are enriched by further working models of the designs, and I noticed that children were fascinated by them. Good place to take the family if you are in the vicinity.

We visited during rain if not, I would suggest to visit the gorgeous gardens and have lunch here! The museum itself was very interesting, especially to see all the inventions da Vinci made, but the gardens are exceptional and I would easily have spent a couple of hours here.

We spent 4 hours at this attraction, my science geek husband was in 7th heaven ( I enjoyed it too). A lot to see and do as many exhibits are interactive. Nice light lunch at creperie (rose wine and Leonardo beer both good). Great to see Leonardo's drawings come to life in models, animations and full size creations. Good exhibit about how his written work came to be in so many places and the way he expressed all his skills in the 3 years at the Close Luce.
