Owner description: At the invitation of Francis I, Leonardo da Vinci came to live at the Château du Clos Lucé and stayed here for the last three years of his life, devoting himself to perfecting his inventions. Leonardo was prolific and inspired, working as an engineer, architect and theatrical director, organising lavish festivities for the Court. At his residence 300 metres from the Château Royal, he drew up plans for a model château for Francis I in Romorantin and designed the double-helix open staircase in the Château de Chambord. The Château du Clos Lucé is dedicated to showing and explaining to the public the great knowledge acquired by the Italian Maestro.

“Not to be missed attraction”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

This the actual house that Da Vinci lived in until his death. There is many models of his inventions throughout the home. Lots of furnishings throughout as well. Also a great gift shop at the exit with models and books as well as other Da Vinci related items. A must visit in Amboise.

“One of the highlights of the Loire Valley”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014

This is a must for visitors to the Loire Valley. It and the Amboise Chateau make the trip worth your while. The Leonardo museum is very interesting indeed, with models of his amazing inventions. It gives you some idea of the incredible range of talents he possessed. The gardens are also superb so it is a wonderful place to spend a few hours on a nice day. Go for it!

“Not to be missed!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014

The palatial home Leonardo lived and died in is a must for any traveller in the area! The well furnished house, the beautiful gardens and the models of da Vinci's work therein - small ones for children, mid-size ones for adults plus drwain designs to study in detail and actual sized one in the park should not be missed. A visit there shows very clearly that the eptihet "genius" was devised for that man!

“An education in a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

Lovely setting in the Manor house and gardens, very interesting models and history of all the inventions with translations. Great grounds to walk around, take good shoes as you will cover some distance. Cycle parking in the gardens by reception but the entrance price is one of the highest in the Loire!

“Leonardo di Vinci museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

Great visit here, not expensive. Outside areas extremely good with play area for kids. Inside interesting displays and working models, with demonstrations on tv screens, great for kids and adults alike. I learnt a lot about this great man. Two cafés with food available, great ambience.
