Owner description: At the invitation of Francis I, Leonardo da Vinci came to live at the Château du Clos Lucé and stayed here for the last three years of his life, devoting himself to perfecting his inventions. Leonardo was prolific and inspired, working as an engineer, architect and theatrical director, organising lavish festivities for the Court. At his residence 300 metres from the Château Royal, he drew up plans for a model château for Francis I in Romorantin and designed the double-helix open staircase in the Château de Chambord. The Château du Clos Lucé is dedicated to showing and explaining to the public the great knowledge acquired by the Italian Maestro.

House tour fairly brief but very interesting. Exhibition of Leonardo's models worth seeing. The grounds however were the best with lifesize recreations of LdV;s inventions dotted around a pleasant walk around the landscaped gardens.

Disabled parking spot just outside entrance but is usually parked up. Entrance separate for disabled visitors and access to ground floor and gardens. If the disabled person can manage half a dozen steps, the basement is accessible and worth the effort. The gardens are full of surprises but a hard push uphill at the end!

The visit is interesting if, like us, you know little of da vinci's story. It tells you of the last years of his life that he spent in this castle. You get to understand what a genius he was even if everything there is a reproduction. It is also very entertaining and educative for kids. Recommended stop in Amboise.

A great experience - walkable from Amboise centre in about 15 minutes. The house gardens and exhibition was informative and well presented.
