“Charming Loire Valley Hotel”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

We were only able to stay one night and wished we could stay longer. The hotel has private parking (always an appreciated plus), a nice pool (which we did use), and many lovely sitting areas. Our rooms were wonderful - The decor is what you would expect in the Loire valley. Our room had a large bathroom and even a large closet area. Safe and refrigerator were available in the room. Although we had rooms over the dining room, they were quiet. Our only problems were the noise level of the air conditioning unit and there was no hot water for our evening shower (very cold). But we would come back.

This is a terrific charming hotel with lovely garden and pool.
Everything was great and we would definitely return.
Although we did not have dinner there we wished we had after mediocre fare in the lee of the impressive chateau walls.

Room Tip: We enjoyed room 19 on 1st floor in garden.

We drove from Paris to Amboise to make it our overnight base while we toured several castles. We found this lovely hotel while driving around. Au line at the front desk was lovely, helpful and made us feel at home. Our room was magnificent, the bathroom brand new, the toiletries were Roget-Gallet --wonderfully scented. We walked three blocks to the town, toured the Chateau d'Amboise--Leonardo da Vinci is buried here--and walked back to the hotel. Next morning we had a delicious breakfast made to order.
You will love the grounds and the pool, it all was so special that I had to tell you about it.
After breakfast we drove to Chenonceaux and then Chambord!!

The site is very pretty with a fantastic warm pool, petit restaurant and even a sauna (we didn't use the sauna, it seemed relatively new, but small - reserve at the front desk). The staff was pleasant and the grounds were very well-kept. The bed was comfortable and the linens were crisp and clean. The Hermes toiletries were wonderful.
The bathroom (room #10, a superior room) was a bit cramped and the flush on the toilet was too powerful for courtesy flushing, if you know what I mean. The shower was nice, but it was a handheld type. The angle of the bathtub meant it was a bit awkward to get in and out of (especially when wet; especially for seniors). The room had a great view and air conditioning that worked well once we really took a look at the controls (the default had a timer setting to turn off too quickly - we wanted it icy, American-style).
It felt a bit "out of the way", but not terribly so; it was only a 5 minute walk (albeit a lonely walk after 10pm).
I would have rated this location higher, but the price point for this hotel (180 EUR) was on par/a slight bit higher than other nearby 4 star properties. I was happy with the hotel and our stay, but to be honest, if I go back to Amboise, I would also look at the Le Manor Saint Thomas hotel (just down the street, also very pretty, with a pool) or le Pavillon de Lys (closer to the center, less expensive), or the Manoir Minimes (steps from the castle, gorgeous property, recommended by my French friends), all of which were slightly less expensive, but looked just as impressive...

Room Tip: The rooms were quiet and calm. We had a "superior" room, but I would have gone for a pres...

We had a wonderful visit at Le Clos d'Ambois. Our room was very charming and nicely decorated. Even though we were in an upper floor room where the ceiling slants, it was still very comfortable. If you are tall, make sure you get the superior room for a little extra charge. The location is ideal within walking distance to all the sites and shops in Ambois. The real highlight of our visit was the great staff at this hotel. They could not be more friendly or helpful. I would like to single out Pauline, the receptionist. She was extremely courteous, patient and very helpful with directions and even helpful with parking our car.

Stayed two nights as our base for touring the Loire Valley. Thoroughly enjoyed being here instead of in noisy Tours. The garden is beautiful and tranquil. Staff could not be more accommodating, and the breakfast and bar just right. The first room we were given was in the carriage house and had an awful odor and was a bit cramped. The fellow on duty quickly changed course and put us in a very pleasant room in the main building and moved our luggage for us. They were excellent with restaurant suggestions, and very helpful throughout our stay. The location is only a 3 block walk to the heart of the town and the chateau, and it was a quiet precinct at night.

We just spent one night at this beautiful hotel and we were devastated that we couldn't spend more time here.
From the moment we stepped into this beautiful green oasis in the middle of medieval streets we felt relaxed.
The family room we booked was enormous and we were very comfortable. The pool was was perfect and just serene amongst the beautiful landscaped back-drop.
This hotel is a little gem and a must for anyone staying in Amboise.

Room Tip: All the room are great but the family room is enormous
