“Excellent hotel spoiled by insects and an ideosyncratic menu”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

A pleasantly situated hotel (converted Golf clubhouse with additional accommodation) 4kms from Amboise.
Rooms were passably spacious and the facilities worked. Balconies overlooked the ex Golf course and a mosquito breeding pool. We fortunately had a anti mosquito device for the bedroom, but eating on the apron of the restaurant caused us to be eaten a bit too!
The staff were excellent at dinner I reported a failed light, replaced by the end of dinner! They were also very helpful relating to car parking and local attrations.
It was a taxi ride to town Drinking and driving is now Gendarmed out in France, so we eat in. The food quality was excellent unfortunately the chef had an aversion to cooking things and specialized in Tartare dishes (2/3 of the dishes were uncooked) It was a limited menu and the higher priced items were expensive (main dishes more than 20 euros) the cheaper items concentrated on being raw.

Room Tip: In Summer get a room as far from the pond as you can, do not eat in unless the chef has started hea...

Our second stay at this hotel and it remains a great place. Ok its modern and the rooms are in a seperate building to the breakfast/restuarant room but its in a stunning location and it was very comfortable. Very welcoming hosts and a nice spacious clean room to start with. The food is adverttsed as light and therefore you don't get huge portions but the quality is excellent with a good choice of wine. Breaksfast also very good with very fresh pastries and bread. All in all a recommended hotel.

Room Tip: Nothing specific but it is near water so expect some noise from the wildlife!

Looking forward to staying here having been delighted five years ago. Very disappointed. Hotel looked shabby and run down. Rot in the decking by tables and chairs in garden. Weeds in paving around swimming pool - no sun umbrellas as in photos! Room basically clean, but in need of decorating. On ground floor - noise from upstairs annoying. Patio doors opened onto terrace 2 metres away from smelly, stagnant pond - mosquito heaven! Meals- limited choice and quantity (only one cereal on offer for breakfast!) Had much better elsewhere for the same price. Will not be returning!

Room Tip: If you really want to stay here ask for an upstairs room away from the pond!

While trying to make booking 24 hours before for a beautiful summer weekend in the Val de Loire, we were understandably hitting a fully booked wall, so we didn't have high expectations when we secure a duplex room for 3 for a very reasonable rate. We were pleasantly surprised, even though the common areas of the room wing could use a bit more maintenance, the room was great, clean and extremely comfortable. The swimming pool is small but very ice and adequate for a relaxing weekend.

Very good breakfast as well, the breads and pastries are just great.

In June my husband, myself and Two relatives from Tasmania had a long weekend at this lovely peaceful place in the Loire Valley. We were made to feel very welcome. The bedrooms, grounds and food could not be faulted. If you like peace and quiet then this is the place for you.
Perhaps a bit better map to find the place would be a good idea. Overall excellent..

This May (2013) my husband and I spent two nights at the Domaine de L'Arbrelle in Amboise, France. This auberge is located on lushly landscaped grounds and the rooms are large and very comfortable. The owners are extremely friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. We were on bicycles and the first night we were there the restaurant was closed. They insisted on driving us into town so we could dine there and then came and picked us up afterwards. The next night we ate at their excellent restaurant. I highly recommend this auberge as a base for exploring the Loire.

Our first day of a six day cycling trip had been hard, and the welcome from the staff was great. They helped us put away our bikes, gave us a beer on their terrace looking over the grounds, and generally were always accommodating of our needs.

The place itself is in a beautiiful settting, and, although we were only there for two nights, we were in a suite away from the main building, and appreciated the quiet and the layout of the grounds.

I would certainly visit again if I am in the Loire.

Room Tip: Our suite away from the main building was great.
