Stayed two months in winter. Loved it. Wood burner a great asset. Barely 10 mins walk to the village. Very friendly locals, with Francisco deserving a special mention.

“A lovely house and pool ideally located Minutes walk from the centre of Azay-le-Rideau”
Reviewed 28 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

This is a lovely well-equipped house, situated just over 5 minutes’ walk from the centre of Azay-le-Rideau with its Chateau, shops, and many restaurants. It was nice to be able to have the opportunity of walking into town if/when we wanted. Although Azay doesn’t boast a large number of shops, the main local supermarket is ~ 5 minutes’ drive away.

A big feature of the house is its excellent (mostly secluded) pool, situated just ‘above’ the house in a little sun trap. The pool is a key in allowing both adults and children alike to relax, and not feel the need to leave the house if we didn’t want to.
For our trip we were also blessed with excellent weather, and not a single drop of rain.

The railway station is approximately 30 minutes walk away, but parking (at least in August) was plentiful. We took a day trip by train to Tours, and remind other travellers that they should validate their rail tickets by inserting the ticket(s) into the left hand side of the yellow machine at the station *before* boarding any train. If possible travellers should use the ticket office (which wasn’t open when we went) as the ticket machine at Azay does not appear to have the same range of discounts available when using the more up to date (and easy to use) ticket machines at Tours station.

The castle at Chinon (~25 mins drive away) is a must for anyone staying in Azay.

There were also excellent and prompt communications with the owner before/during/after the trip.

In all, a lovely holiday, and we as a family would be very happy to return here again at some point in the hopefully not too distant future!

“Lovely relaxing stay”
Reviewed 15 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We spent a lovely (slightly rainy!) week at Maisonette de Rose and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The property is a good size with a large dining/sitting room and a well-equipped kitchen. There is off-road parking next to the property and a pleasant area to eat outside. Upstairs there are three bedrooms which aren't particularly big but are reasonable with storage in each room. The biggest attraction for us was the outside pool which was absolutely fantastic - it's 1.25 meters deep and was a good temperature even with the slightly dodgy weather we had. We were a bit worried when we first arrived due to very limited space for ball games etc by the gite (football nets are available about 5 mins away near the campsite) but the football stayed in the car with our ten-year old preferring to spend every available second in the pool! The other major draw for us with this property was its proximity to the local town. We stocked up on essentials at the local hypermarket (5 mins drive from the gite) before arriving and then didn't use the car again until a week later when we left! There are lots of lovely restaurants in Azay (we particularly liked Cote Couer and Velo for lovely ice-cream!) and it took us about 30 mins to walk to the train station for day-trips to Tours and Chinon. The Wednesday market in the town is quite small but excellent for fresh fruit/veg, meat, fish and cheese and there are some good wine shops in the town. We were also lucky enough to be there for the monthly night-market which was fab. Over-all, an excellent property and we would certainly consider returning in the future.

“Character house in a character location”
Reviewed 29 June 2017 for a stay in March 2017

The house is in an excellent location as it is a short walk to the town centre, a short drive to hypermarket and not far away from very many beautiful chateaux. Azay le Rideau itself is charming and during the time we were there ( March to end of May) not too busy but with all you would expect to find by way of cafes, restaurants and bars. We would especially recommend the restaurant "Les Grottes" which is a very short walk from the house. The chateau at Azay is delightful and well worth a visit.
The house itself is in character with the surroundings and has been well restored. When we arrived in mid March it was rather cold at first but once we had warmed it up we found it very comfortable. It can sleep 6 so, although it was only the two of us most of the time as we were there for 10 weeks, it was lovely to be able host friends and family who visited during that time. There was also enough parking off road for up to 3 cars.
The house is well equipped with cooker, microwave, washing machine & tumble dryer. There was also the facility to dine outdoors which we used regularly during the good weather. We did find the cooking utensils a little limited for a long stay but it was certainly adequate for a normal holiday stay and it did have a good selection of BBQ stuff for the summer. It was also useful being able to have British TV as well as French and there is also the facility to record programmes. WiFi was excellent (essential for an extended stay.)
Local people were friendly and welcoming and Francisco, who looks after things for the owner, was a delightful and helpful character for whom nothing was too much trouble. We particularly appreciated the fresh eggs from his hens on his huge allotment opposite the house.
The swimming pool was not open during our time there but I'm sure it would be an attraction during the summer months.
We would fully recommend La Maisonette de Rose and Azay le Rideau.
