“Fabulous stay in the heart of chateaux country”
Reviewed 31 May 2013

We started our May 2013 trip to France with a 3 night stay at Le Moulin des Charmes, and we are so glad we did! Our room was spacious, comfortable, and private. The grounds are like a small private park, complete with a river running through (the house itself is a converted old mill). Moulineuf itself is a tiny little town, but it is very convenient to all the chateaux in the region, and to restaurants nearby (we had a casual dinner across the street, and an excellent dinner in a neighboring town a few miles away). Best of all was the warmth, helpfulness and exquisite culinary skills of our host, Marina. Breakfasts were delicious, and the dinner we had with Marina at Le Moulin des Charmes was among the best in our two week trip. We would have enjoyed a longer stay.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room opening to the enclosed yard/garden, which was perfect for us.

Is this the most beautiful B&B in France? Quite possibly.. after a couple of hectic days in Paris, we arrived here to find a perfect haven; beautiful gardens (and our only sun in three weeks in France), wonderful host (thanks Marina!), friendly dogs and atmospheric geese/chickens. Super-comfortable beds and rooms and great breakfast. Excellent location for the area (though it is 10 minutes outside Blois) but we could happily have stayed in the garden and read books for a week.

Room Tip: We stayed upstairs, but everything looked equally attractive..

My husband enjoyed 2 nights in the Magnolia Room at Le Moulin des Charmes. The home is unbelievably gorgeous as are the grounds! Breakfasts were significant with assorted breads, fruits, yogurts, jams, eggs and bacon to order. We had a room on the ground floor with an exterior entrance ~ very nice to be able to park our car right outside of our door! The room was quite large, as was the bathroom ~ very nice! :) My only little quibble has to do with the rough, paper-thin bathroom towels....

Please be sure to have the hosts prepare a gourmet dinner for you one night! Marina is an incredible cook and prepared the most delicious meal for us ~ from start to finish! Noel is extremely knowledgeable with wine and poured so many delicious wines throughout the meal! Thank goodness our room was only a few steps away from the dining room table! Because we were visiting friends who live in the Blois area, Marina and Noel were extremely gracious to allow us to invite them to dinner in their home. It made our stay there perfect!

Room Tip: The Magnolia room might be ideal to stay in during the summer months; it is a bit chilly during cold...

Booked with ease a beautiful room and were cared for impeccably by Marina and Noel. The Azalea room had beautiful views and the large bed was a dream. We were made to feel totally at home with drinks in the afternoon after a day of sight seeing, and the pleasure of joining Marina and Noel and the other guests for a beautiful dinner party on our last night. You would not be disappointed staying here and if so NMPD. .

We were won over first by the charming place it was and the great location by a picturesque setting. We were then won over by both Noel and Marina who complement each other very well.

We were welcomed into their home as long lost friends, included into their lives, shared delightful food, experiences...would we recommend anyone to stay here?.....absolutely...but as long as it doesn't stop us from staying in the future

Well done Noel and Marina (Marina....how did the pope's visit go?)

Thanks to all who recommended Le Moulin des Charmes. We loved it! We just returned home from six restful and remarkable nights. The gardens are lovely, with a mill stream running through them. Marina and Noel are the most gracious and caring of hosts. The B&B is spotlessly maintained. The food, well we may decide to go back just for the breakfasts: croissants and breads with honey and home-made jams, Marina's fruit cobblers (or puddings), coffee or tea, as well as individual orders of eggs and local meats. We were also there for one of Marina's dinners, which was simply superb. Our room was at least twice the size of the double hotel room we'd had in Paris. Whether it was the bed or the country air, we slept more soundly than any place we've stayed in our forty years of traveling together. Marina even went out of her way to take us to a local artisan who makes goat cheese on her farm. Can't say enough good things.

We spent 3 nights there in August. What can I add that hasn’t already been mentioned already? Not much, other than simply endorsing every other positive contribution made. Marina and Noel are perfect hosts and their two friendly dogs Roxy and Gessie also add their own charm to make you feel at home. The accommodation itself is impeccable – clean, charming and spacious. The garden is absolutely beautiful, and beyond the garden their property extends into several paddocks lined by little canals. I had the pleasure of being taken on a walk by Gessie their beautiful 9 month pup. She kept running ahead then stopping for me to catch up. Eventually we returned on the other side of the canal with Gessie leading the way.

We arrived on a hot Sunday evening naively thinking that we’d find something open for dinner. Not so, but also no problem for Marina and Noel. They insisted that we dine with them by the little stream that passed through their garden. We enjoyed a few glasses of wine with a lovely meal that Marina prepared for us.

We also had plans for hiring bicycles to ride out to the various chateaux. However, Noel suggested we think otherwise, given the distances and the warm weather. The next morning he booked us a car with Avis, then drove us to the Avis depot in Blois where he supervised the inspection of the vehicle as well as organizing a station drop-off 6 days later. To Noel this consideration was just a part of the service.

Every morning Marina had a great spread prepared for our breakfast and Noel would be directing us on his maps (which he kindly loaned us).

It says something about a B&B that when you leave you feel like you are leaving the company of old friends.

Le Moulin des Charmes is simply the best B&B we have ever stayed at.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Camelia Room - but I doubt that you could go wrong with any offering.
