The castle is right in the city. Not as big as some other famous castles but interesting to have a look at. You get a very nice view of the Loire from the castle.

Fabulous buildings with excellent displays and informative signage. The audioguide is a bit on the slow side, but gives an excellent level of detail. The only drawback was the poor level of organisation in terms of queue management at the ticket office and every aspect of organisation at the associated Maison de Magie across the Place.

Overlooking the town of Blois, stands the Royal Chateau. Started in the 13th century by the Counts of Blois, this modestly sized chateau became a favorite location of many French kings, including Louis XII, Francis I, Henry III, and Louis XIII. The interior courtyard sports an external, spiral staircase (much the rage in its day), a statue of Francis II, and a carved porcupine, the symbol of Francis. This is well worth a visit. Afterword, walk down the long staircase to the town and have a drink at one of the large outdoor restaurants under the huge shade trees.

Located within the town and views across the river. The chateau has four contrasting period wings around a central courtyard, restorations carried out in the 19th and 20thC. The 13thC Gothic hall (largest in France), flamboyant Louis X11 brick and stone wing built in 1498-1501, followed by the Renaissance wing of Francois 1st 1515-1520 and finally the Classic style of the Gastons d` Orleans wing of 1635-1638. This was the residence of seven kings and ten queens of France. A most interesting Great Staircase (Francois 1) gives access to the upper floors. There are considerable rooms on view which include royal apartments, fine art museum, architecture and temporary exhibitions. There is also the Saint-Calais Chapel and Foix Tower to visit not forgetting the panoramic view from the terrace. Well worth the visit to compare with other chateaux.

In the centre of Blois. Much larger than it first appears and well worth a visit. English connection is King Stephen, also Count of Blois. Many rooms visited with much history to hold interest.
Good value, and well worth a visit despite there being so many other Chateau nearby
