“Great Hotel; Great Location”

This hotel is located in the main square/city centre and easy to find. We unfortunately arrived during a rain storm but the ladies behind the desk helped us tremendously. They upgraded our room and personally parked our car!
The room was quite lovely and the public areas we just as nice. Since it was raining we ate at the hotel. The evening menu offering was more limited than we were used to so it was difficult to make a selection.
The morning breakfast buffet was execellent as well as the staff.
We would definitely stay here again if we were to visit this lovely town again.

Everything was perfect so it's 5 stars. Friendly and helpful reception staff and check in. Rooms spacious and elegant. Fantastic location in easy walk to Cathedral and nice little restaurants. Fabulous breakfast - the 2nd best in 3 weeks in France. Lovely wait-staff and everything quickly replenished. Very agreeable to a couple of friends of ours having a small entree for dinner - no pressure. Don't go past this place.

Room Tip: If there is something happening in the square in front..ask for a room at the back !! It was very lo...

Well located for the main square and city centre. Parking is in a city car park under the main square at additional cost (no concessions for hotel residents) and, although easy to access when you know how, it is quite difficult when you first arrive (in the rain and tired!).
Bedroom and public rooms are well proportioned and appointed, if a little dated (old fashioned?!). All very comfortable and convenient, though.
There are two restaurants, one with a Michelin star and we were disapointed to find that by 5pm on a Saturday afternoon both were fully booked, even for residents and no one suggested that might be the case when we arrived at midday. That tinged our view of our stay and resulted in a difficult search for somewhere reasonable to eat that Saturday evening (again in the pouring rain!)
We found somewhere and returned for a late night drink to a somewhat bawdy atmosphere and not in keeping with the sedateness we encountered when we arrived.

Hotel is fabulous - booked through a booking website and got an amazing deal. The hotel sits right opposite the main square in Chartres. Very traditional - some would say old fashioned - hotel. Room was amazing, very big, plenty of plugs for charging all electronic devices. Bed - huge and comfortable. Bathroom spacious with all pamper products you would expect. Breakfast was included in our price and the choice was as you would expect - pastries, cereals, fruit, cheese, ham alongside cooked options. Self service buffet but worked well. The bar within the hotel is a lovely space to relax and unwind after a day out and about in the local area. Our room overlooked the square, which is an exceptional view. Car parking was handy in the underground car park opposite the hotel, very cheap for overnight but you do need to move your car in the day as that's when the cost adds up. The staff were excellent and if we should visit Chartres again we will be booking this hotel.

The Le Grand Monarque was recommended by friends who had visited Chartres some years ago. The convenience of the hotel could not be matched. It was an easy walk from the train station and we had a view of the Cathedral from our room. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Our room was lovely with antique furnishings and a comfortable bed. There was a large desk, but only one comfortable chair. Our only complaint would be the bathroom. It had a large bathtub, but the shower was lacking somewhat. With a small glass partition for the shower, it was easy to leave a puddle of water after a shower. The hair dryer was old and totally inadequate. The amount of air was not suitable for styling one's hair, making it difficult. We had a power adapter but had left the small attachment that fit into the socket. The staff gave us one, but it would not stay in. I was unable to use my own hair dryer and we were unable to re-charge cell phones, cameras laptops.

The best part of the hotel was the charm, the location and the view. We would choose this hotel again if we were to return. We would try to remember our own adapter next time, though I am not confident it would help.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Cathedral.

I stay here often when I travel through France. Right in the middle of Chartres, though easy to access, this is the perfect stopover for the weary traveller as you are really looked after by the staff.

I like the classic decor and the rooms are generally very comfortable.

My only complaint would be that I find the quality of the food in the Brasserie is declining and for the price it should be better.

Room Tip: If you can afford to upgrade to one of the more expensive rooms, these are really very pleasant inde...

I have stayed and dined at the Monarque for the last 20 years. True story. It is my all-time favorite hotel/accommodation in Chartres. I have referred dozens of people here, no one has regretted it. There is a casual elegance in this hotel that I look for elsewhere but rarely find.

It is family run. The dining choices are great, and the food superb. I have been in several different rooms, love them all, but DO have my favorite:)

I think one of the best things to say overall about the Monarque, is it thoroughly enhances your experience in Chartres and of France.

Such a pleasure to do business with them.
