The rooms are clean and basic and the staff was friendly. Its only 3minutes away from the cathedral and the hotel used to be the monastry so for example breakfast is served in a vaulted crypt which really adds to the experience. the breakfast buffet was bigger than usual in france and only cost 7euros which is good value. definitely would stay there again.

This hotel, also known as the Hotellerie Saint Yves, is located right around the corner from the Cathedral. The rooms we had were spartan, very clean, and our two rooms we were on the first floor above the entrance--they were larger than the tiny Parisian rooms we've experienced, and they had fantastic views- one with a smidgeon of cathedral tower, and one with an expansive view over the old town and stream below. One of our rooms had a tv (we didn't use it) and there was free internet (ask for the passcode when you check in).

Altough we had a very hard time finding it as it is located in a one way street, the place is very pleasant. Also a short walk to the cathedral. Good for 1 night stay!

We stayed in two different rooms in this hotel, on the way to, and back from, southern France. Both were on the third floor and at the rear of the building. Our rooms were much smaller than those shown on the website and contained a tiny plastic cubicle with a very small shower and W.C. The floors were grubby and the windows are above head height so, it is not possible to see out unless you climb up onto the ledge. The road noise at the back of the building is quite intrusive, especially with the ubiquitous scooters screaming around at 3am. Luckily this didn't affect us too badly as, we were lucky enough to be entertained by a drunken gathering of the local yoof until 4am. We shut the windows and couldn't sleep because of the heat. This is obviously not the fault of the hotel but, it is a consideration when you have a long drive the following day. The hotel was a nightmare to find, despite printing various maps of the town. I know you get what you pay for but, I did expect better than this.
Unless you really want to be close to the cathedral, and can get a room on the second floor, I would suggest that you would be better off going to one of the out of town hotels.

This former nunnery/monastery is a short step from the glorious Chartres Cathedral and in the heart of the historic quarter. A very friendly welcome awaits. The accommodation is basic but spotlessly clean and excellent value. (The ensuite shower room reminded me of a ferry cabin bathroom ! - but had everything you need and was squeaky clean). Breakfast (at 7 Euros pp) is good and served in a beautiful airy 'cloisters' type area on the lower ground floor. It's a fantastically atmospheric place to stay and perfect for exploring old Chartres. It's tricky to find by car - but head for the Tourist Office near the cathedral and they will direct you. Secure parking available at the hotel, leaving you free to wander the ancient streets on foot. Lots of good restaurants withing easy walking distance. The music and lights show after dark (every night in July & August and other times too) is brilliant in all senses! - colours and spectacle projected onto the cathedral and other important buildings, set to music. Really awe-inspiring stuff. The cathedral itself is jaw-droppingly impressive (even to a seasoned cathedral visitor like me!). Even our teenagers were speechless! We only stayed one night enroute to Brittany but I would definitely go back. Budget prices but a completely different experience from most budget hotels. Highly recommended.

Some of your recent reviews are a bit out of date / inaccurate. This hotel in a former convent does not make you change / strip your own beds. Our beds were made every day, and fresh towels left every day. My only real criticisms were, that the beds were a bit hard, and the breakfast buffet tended to run out of some items, if you were not up early. But, the rooms are large enough, spotless, and very quiet, with nice views. The breakfast at Eur 7 was good value compared with most hotels in France, and the room-rate was excellent value for such a good location. The wonderful cathedral is less than a hundred yards away. The Saturday market is 300 yards away. The picturesque river-side walk is 5 minutes away downhill. The shopping district and train station are all less than 15 minutes walk away. There is a superb selection of restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Do not use Google for a town map. They site the cathedral in totally the wrong place. Use Maplandia instead. The little tourist street train by the cathedral is a great way of orienteering all the sites on a 30-minute tour for Eur 6.

This is the Diocesan hostelry for church groups, individual travelers, pilgrims i.e. those visiting the Cathedral. The room was clean and spartan, like any monastic guest house. Breakfast is continental and around the corner next to the Rectory. It is all a part of the Cathdral grounds. You can walk everywhere very easily. We took the train from Paris and then rented a Hertz car when we departed. A car is fairly useless in town. Sunday view out the window with sailplanes flying from the local airfield were a spectacular addition to the stay. NOTE: the office closes for lunch 1:00-2:00pm.
