How do you review ' a wonderland'? We spent our 10 days in France last year after being in the country several times by divided into three key destinations, Lyon, Strasbourg, and Paris. As we had been in Paris in many occasions, we took one day excursion to Chateau de Chenonceau. It was a perfect decision, we took the TGV early in the morning and joined a scheduled sightseeing tour of the several chateaus. Chateau de Chenonceau was the first stop and we were totally captivated inits beauty on its surrounding as well as the interior. Everything was picture-perfect more than words can describe. We highly recommend to all visitors as a well travelled person. You will not be disappointed.

My wife and I visited this chateau (among others) in the area in July. The video/audio guide (on an iPod) is worth getting as it adds quite nicely to the posted commentaries in the rooms and makes it easy to follow what items the speaker is talking about. Though a bit redundant, the story/history of the caste is quite interesting.

The only negative was the amount of wear-n-tear that all the tourists have had on the flooring and stairs. Just sad to see, because it's such a beautiful chateau.

If you are trying to chose between this and CHAMBORD, there's no comparison-- skip Chambord unless you like high sticker prices, many tourists/buses and gltizy tourist crap along w/your chateau.

When I think of Chateaus, Chenonceau is the one that comes to mind first. It's unique architecture situated over the Cher River gives it a fairy tale aura. As others here have commented, picking up the guidebook as you enter is helpful, especially if you are english speaking. Allow at least 2 hours for a thorough walk through the house and formal gardens.

Beautiful Castle in France that should be the top of your list if you love castles. Stunning. The beat place to get a photo is in the mistresses castle near the chateau. Grab the free visitor guide which provides description of all the rooms. Additionally, you could get the audio guide but we didn't need it.

Take time to also explore the gardens plus maze.

My favourite of the many chateaus - be sure to make time for this one - tour the castle and grounds and take a boat out for a modest 7 euros - through the arches and along the river - you can also stroll the park behind the chateau - just a glorious place - well worth a viit
