“Great castle, lots of people”
Reviewed 14 August 2014 via mobile

We loved this castle. The building itself is beautiful and its position above the cher river makes it very unique. The interior is richly decorated and there are many rooms to visit. The downside is that these rooms are very small and when there is a lot of visitors, it gets really crowded. The gardens are also very nice as well as the old farm. Kids will enjoy the donkeys and the maze while veggies or flower lovers will enjoy the potager. We didn't take the audio guide but thought the free leaflet was already nice. There are historical details on the walls of the second floor gallery as well. The outside of the castle offers picnic areas and the trainstation is literally in front of the castle gates. We saw there is also a free baggage storage area. Because of the weather the free boat tours were not running but it's good to know they exist. Overall a great experience but had i known about the crowds i would have come earlier or later in the day. Very happy with the visit though.

“Best of the chateaus !”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

Even though this chateaux is smaller than chambord it is prettier in my opinion and more of a representation of how these people would have actually lived. The flower garden is beautiful. The period furnishings and clothing make this era come alive. The surrounding buildings/village comprised of the staff exhibits what an enormous undertaking these chateaus were. The kitchen with it s access to the river for the sake of transporting supplies was fascinating. Great history lesson for young and old ! Also includes quaint restaurant and gift shops including historical books. Not to be missed.

“Postcard Perfect Chateau”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

Chenonceau is a beautiful chateau that should be on the "must see" list. Although not particularly large (by Chambord standards), the state of restoration and refurnishing is excellent. Although the site was home to a 13th century chateau, several buildings have occupied it since. The most recent major rebuilding occurred in 1559 when Catherine de Medici took control of the property upon the death of Henry II. The location of the chateau, straddling the river makes for wonderful pictures. The relatively small gardens are beautiful and well maintained

“Beautiful and historic”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

This is must see when visiting the Loire Valley. Rather than trying to see every castle, spend the extra time at the Chateau de Chenonceau. The grounds are beautiful, starting with the flower gardens. It is built over the River Cher and depending on the time of day, can a photographers dream. For history buffs, this was the dividing line and a means of escaping from the Nazi occupied zone on one side of the River to the "free" zone on the opposite bank.

The visit of the castle was very crowded! But beautiful scenery and gardens. No picnic inside the gates... they check your bags at the gates!
