maybe it was the time of year, mid february but this hotel was a big big disappointment. mostly it was food/restaurant related but this impacted so much on the whole place that i could not recommend it despite the fact that the room was reasonably comfortable and clean and the price was fairly cheap. [i assume that in the height of the season it would not be quite so inexpensive].
food was diabolical and came with tinned vegetables - yes! potatoes and green beans from a tin and my husband ordered the gambas - inedible at any price. following this we thought we would have a coffee and retire. this too was a mistake the double espresso appeared to be 2 spoonfuls of instant coffee! trade descriptions should pay them a visit.
a continental breakfast, you would assume cannot be difficult. Well the coffee [instant from the night before] was in an urn and tasted burnt, the orange juice, if that was what it was, was highly watered down and the bread meagre. we had to leave and find breakfast elsewhere.
we did try to complain but the only member of staff was a young lad who could not locate anyone else for us to complain to.
stay away from this hotel - there were plenty of others in town.

Room Tip: try a different hotel

I can't say for the rooms as we never stayed there.
We found ourselves here at the main restaurant last Friday on a day trip with France Tourisme and our lunch option unexpectedly brought us here to this particular restaurant. We paid 22 Eur/per as part of the lunch option and were expecting a decent lunch and all we were offered were this gross lunch. A choice of small simple plate of lettuce with over ripen diced tomatoes or soup for starter, extremely overcooked small piece of chicken with tasteless macaroni. Dessert was ice cream or a tasteless piece of apple tart. How can a restaurant even serve and offer this sort of lunch to visitors? I believe they don't expect anyone of us to return and didn't consider customer service and quality as their priority but simply taking full advantage from the tourist.
We were not even given the choice of ordering from the menu. After the meal, we read through the menu prices advertised on the front of the restaurant entrance and we were aghast by what we had paid. This bad lunch experience has literally destroyed the entire day for us and Chateau Chenonceau being the first of the day didn't help either.
I would recommend finding a better restaurant in the village as there are many other options and better nearby restaurants. When we booked our day trip online with France tourisme , we weren't sure of out options with lunch.

The town of Chenonceaux will not go beyond a main street and a train station. But every tourist goes there because of the castle ...
Perhaps because of this Hotel Du Roy gives more attention to his restaurant to the rooms of guests.
Situated less than 500 meters from the entrance to the castle, is an excellent option because parking is free.Perhaps the high turnover that prevents it remodeled the rooms.
Ideal for a night, although people who work there are very helpful and polite. The breakfast was excellent.

Price good; room pokey; bathroom in need of attention (shower broken); squashed flies on wall not good. I understand that life involves flies, but how did housekeeping miss them? Underwhelmed. If this hotel were anywhere else....

The hotel is really picturesque and welcoming.Location - Excellent , a couple of hundred metres from the entrance to the chateau.
Rooms – The annex accommodation badly needs refurbishing. Rooms are smallish and the decor needs updating. The bathrooms desperately need updating.
Breakfast - Buffet with a good choice.
Restaurant - Excellent food , served in a pleasant garden - formidable!
Staff - All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Their lack of English and our lack of French resulted in their persevering with great patience.

We stayed here for one night on our way to the Dordogne, I knew it was a budget hotel but saying that it was fairly good value for money. It was quiet and reasonably comfortable. The shower was not good, a dribble and no curtain so the water good go over onto the floor and not high enough for my partner. The stairs and hallway were not too clean, a bit tatty. The staff though were very friendly , as in other places in France listening to our not so good French and helping us out. The meal was good for the price and I would recommend it for what it was and what I expected for the price.
