We arrived to Chenonceaux on our 5 day cycle tour in the drizzle/rain, and Le Relais Chenonceaux was very welcoming. Luckily it's close the chateau. Ample parking for bikes under a small roofed area in the courtyard. We found the rooms were warm and had enough space, the bath room functioned well. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the restaurant had some excellent French food and wine, and friendly service with our limited French language. Breakfast was served in another room, enough variety to get us going for the days cycling. We enjoyed our stay...

My husband and I visited this relais in 2000 and loved its' quaint room, iron key, etc. However, as I guess they must, they have "modernized" somewhat, installing a flat screen TV onto the centuries old wooden beams. The windows no longer open onto the courtyard/fresh air. The restaurant is no longer the wonderful, delicious creperie that we remember. So, for us, the visit wasn't quite up to our expectations. The food was okay at the restaurant; of course, the wine was wonderful! The rooms are still decorated with the old furniture and tapestries. For anyone with physical limitations, this is not the hotel for you. Parking was at the church parking lot a couple of blocks away as their parking lot was full. The big plus is that one can easily walk to the Chenenceaux chateau.

We had a one evening stay here with our young son in early October, eating in the restaurant and staying in a triple room. The reception greeting was warm from a lady who may have been the owner, however the good she established will was undone by the intolerant waitress who would not assist with English, was dismissive and often intolerant as we sought to order. When we sought explanations of dishes she responded only in french and was unhelpful and dismissive of our particular dietary requirements. She appeared again at breakfast and was equally dismissive of us.Fortunately the lady who seemed to oversee the place was gracious. The other wait staff were all teenagers and seemed to be doing as instructed. The wifi was particularly unreliable. Opening the window for fresh air was compromised by the chef smoking below us and the smoke rising directly into our room and the loud conversations between he and another late into the evening make the night less comfortable. The room was small however well priced and the place easy to find and had a small allocation of parking.

Room Tip: Begin to speak French to the waitress then seek...or plead...with her to respond in English. See how...

This hotel is bike friendly and dinner was very lovely. It was a crowded night, because one of the other restaurants in town was closed. So we were happy to be able to get a table. There is elegant dining at the hotel around the corner, but we had biked all day and just wanted a shower and dinner. The shower had a slope in it. So watch your head. The water pressure was fine, and the food was excellent. Nice historic building so no air conditioning. Very close to the chateau.

This hotel is reasonable and well priced. Yes the rooms are small but they are well presented anfd theres is nit much the hotel can do as its an historic building. It is the perfect place for exploring. The chateau is a 5 min walk away and close too cycle routes in the area. Also bike friendly. Free wifi at this hotel although it does become tiring asking for new log ins every 24 hours. Breakfast was also a good standard. Secure parking for cars also available.

If you're petit and like quaint hotels, you'll enjoy staying at Le Relais Chenonceaux. If you're normal size or more and like good hotel amenities, this may not to be the place for you. This is a cycle-friendly hotel with reasonably basic rooms located close to the chateau. It's not an average hotel, despite my average rating. You'll either love the historic features or you'll hate them. The hotel retains many original and historic features which are great to look at but can become really annoying the third time you bang your head on the pitched roof. Location, bed comfort and cleanliness were excellent. I love quaint more than the average, but the bathroom was truly compromised and I had to wriggle around a structural cross beam to get in or out of the 2/3 length bath (no shower, but hand-held unit over the bath). It's been a hotter than usual summer in The Loire and no air conditioning (that's not unusual for this level hotel in France) or fan in the room made it close to unbearable to sleep in. The breakfast was distinctly average compared to other hotels we stayed at, but we did eat dinner here in the courtyard which was very good indeed. Service was competent but purely functional. If you're over 5.6" in height, travelling with a large suitcase each and don't like the heat, you may struggle here in summer.

Agree with most of the other reviewers - bedroom size was ok, bed was comfortable, but bathroom was minute, and there was a constant danger of hitting your head on the low, sloping beam over the bath. It was clean and comfortable, but there is no escaping the walls are too thin - we could hear the English couple next door reading out a phone number and repeating it back to each other - my husband wanted to call out that she had repeated one digit incorrectly as we could hear them very clearly! Restaurant food we thought was nice, but were aware of two other diners having problems with their orders. Waiting staff seemed to all be teenagers and not always very efficient - but were all friendly. Breakfast was ok but choice quite limited and the noises from the servery part of the kitchen were very loud as the (thin!) dividing wall finishes several feet short of the ceiling - with boisterous serving staff larking around and the sound of an industrial dishwasher! Fantastic location for visiting the château. Very limited parking is available outside the entrance, but reading the room information there seems to be parking accessible with a key from reception although we weren't offered it when all the parking at the front was full and we asked where we could park.

Room Tip: Think they are all pretty much the same - take earplugs!!
