“Fantastic destination, food and hosts!”
Reviewed 6 July 2013

This was our second visit and we were excited at the prospect of returning to what had been such a lovely weekend away previously. We were not disappointed! This time we took our 3 children and both mums, the accommodation in the family room was perfect for us and both mums were delighted with their rooms. We went out and about each day following Charlottes recommendations for sight seeing and heading back to the Chateau for dinner in the evening. The food was delicious with a superb selection of wine, the children played with other children and had a great time making new friends. We had a wonderful stay and will be back. Our thanks to Charlotte and Jerome for their very natural hospitality, you have a beautiful home!

Trip Advisor may have its detractors, but when you read that somewhere has 225 excellent ratings out of a total of 231 reviews, you really can't go far wrong, - and we were not disappointed! With lots of facilities and activities for children, this lovely Chateau typically attracts couples in their 30s with a young families. However, don't be put off if, like us, you are a generation ahead (or behind, depending on how you view it!). When booking, Charlotte specifically recommended the Granary, a self-contained annexe on 2 floors, still part of the beautiful courtyard but sufficiently removed that you hear no noise at all from other guests.
Our "suite" was very well fitted with a luxurious bed and a "deluge" shower in the roomy bathroom, and the sitting-room was equipped with wi-fi and a drinks fridge containing complementary soft drinks. Having the option of dinner without having to drive several miles was another big plus. The chef prepares supper for the children at 6pm, and the adults all eat at 8. Last, and by no means least, the dining room is stocked with an excellent selection of Loire wines. A buyer and shipper himself, Jerome pointed us in the direction of local vineyards he could personally recommend, - a bonus as we had left the booking of the "wine tour" too late. Nothing was too much trouble for Charlotte and Jerome, such a friendly and charming couple. To summarise, a lovely break and one we hope to repeat before too long.

Room Tip: For "older" couples (or those without children), we would recommend the Granary.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Loire Valley Retreat and our hosts Jerome and Charlotte could not have been nicer. We stayed in the boulangerie, a separate building on site with a sitting room downstairs and the bedroom and the totally renovated and lovely bath upstairs. You should know that with quaint and charming comes a little bit of musty smell from the stone walls in the sitting area downstairs, eliminated by opening the windows. The bed was very comfortable with memory foam and ample pillows.

We ate at their restaurant all three nights we were there, convenient and delicious after a day of sight-seeing. We liked that you did not have to sit with other visitors as is the case in some bed and breakfasts, but tables were close enough to have interesting conversations with others when both parties wanted to do so. The wine selection was excellent and very reasonable in cost. Breakfast, which comes with the cost of the room, was smoked salmon, soft boiled eggs, fresh croissants, yogurts and fruit.

The retreat is located about 8 minutes outside the beautiful town of Chinon and we did spend one day in the castle and shops in town.

I would definitely recommend this retreat if you are looking for a quiet, tranquil place for a vacation.

From the simple booking process to departure after two super days, just the best. The welcome from Charlotte, Gerome and the family, the excellent facilities, the great food (you really need a good appetite for dinner).....oh! I could go on. Just fabulous.

Room Tip: I'd think any room, but the ground floor Chambre de Vigneron suited two slightly aging people ve...

We stayed for 2 nights at end of our half term holiday with our three children aged 2,5&6. It was a beautiful place to stay, lovely for children and great food. We hope to come back and stay longer next time

Arriving at the château, the first impression is absolutely stunning; a charming building right in the middle of nowhere and oh so quiet. Just the way we like it. Charlotte, the owner, welcomed us, showed us to our room and was very helpful, explaining and giving us lots of information. Our room, la chambre du vigneron, was on the ground floor of the castle; very spacious, huge nice bathroom, separate toilet, nice toilettries, very good bed, coffee and tea making facilities, fridge with complementary soft drinks, etc. The only downside was that we could hear everything that the guests in the room above ours were doing. The B&B serves breakfast and dinner. Rather than seating all guests at one big table, as it is quite often done in B&B´s, guests travelling together have separate tables. We particularly liked this concept since this makes it easy to talk with fellow guests without having to shout across the table. Breakfast was plentiful; lots of choice, succulent bread and croissants, etc. We also had dinner at the château. The first night, we were a bit disappointed about the steak, which was very hard to chew. The other nights dinner was very good and portions are generous. Also, the B&B has a wonderful choice of wines at very reasonable prices. And, last but not least, the B&B offers free WIFI and lots of road maps of the area. The château definitely lives up to its reputation! Warmly recommended.

Hello Joanne, thank you for taking the time to review us. Just a little post-script to your review to mention that we have now put a big rug in the room above the one you had to alleviate disturbance, it seems to have done the trick. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to the region. Kindest regards, Charlotte

We stayed here for three nights as part of a tour of the loire Valley. It was a circa 5 hour drive from Calais using the quietest roads I have even had the pleasure of driving on ! We were met by Charlotte and Gerome who were great hostes who provided brilliant advice on things to do in the local area. Lovely chateau, particularly the interior.... our room was huge and exquisitly furnished.

We were nervous about dining at the accommodation expecting it to be rather quiet with no atmosphere but how wrong could we be......the food was delicious, with a a great choice of local wine and with most guests eating at the accommodation it was a great atmosphere.

I would definitely recommend booking a tour with the local wine guide ....Alan......brilliant tour of smaller producers that you wouldnt find without local knowledge

Thank you Charlotte and Gerome for contributing to a great holiday
