Our stay at Chateau de Charge was so warm, friendly and relaxing. For us, it was a getaway from our getaway. It was an escape from the stress of travel - a much needed chance to recharge before the next leg of our trip.

1. Warm hospitality - Well... Jerome and Charlotte are the best hosts I've ever encountered. They are friendly, intelligent and clearly passionate about delivering a unique experience to all their guests.
2. Spacious rooms - Ahhh... the rooms were kept in their original grand proportions. Quality was not sacrificed to make room for, well... other rooms. My mom, niece and I shared a large room with bath, sitting room and separate kids room. The coolest thing - there were 17th century etchings left by previous inhabitants on the bedroom walls (and all around the Chateau for that matter).
3. Kids and dogs and owls and strawberries - Yeah... all of that. You're in the country, and while you won't have to lift a finger, you'll get to enjoy country-ness - crisp fresh air; rolling fields; pluck-em-yourself strawberries; kids and dogs and owls at night - good stuff. You get all of that AND Aveda toiletries.
4. Location - Chinon is a great base for chateau touring and wine tasting. The Chateau de Charge is about five minutes outside the town's walls, so you'll get peace and quiet and pastoral scenery with town amenities just a short drive away.

In short, a stay at Chateau de Charge feels much like coming home to good friends, a great meal, beautiful surroundings and a comfortable bed. Stay there. Book a week (3 nights are not enough). Do the wine tasting. Eat family style. Relax by the pool. You won't regret it.

We stopped over at Chateau de Charge to break our long journey down to the South West of France and wished we were staying there for our whole holiday. It is incredibly family friendly, our two boys (aged two and four) enjoyed running around the courtyard and playing with all the toys on offer. We loved our incredibly spacious room and luxurious bathroom. Charlotte and Jerome were really welcoming, the offer of a home cooked meal was very welcome indeed. It felt like we were visiting friends as we sat down for our meal with the other guests, Charlotte and Jerome. My husband definitely recommends Jerome's wine tasting lesson. To be able to stay somewhere that is completely relaxed about having your two small boys running around whilst also offering the facilities of 5 star hotel is a very special place...... we definitely hope to go back.

What can we say - this truly is the most fantastic holiday destination we have ever seen!! From the moment we arrived, we were treated with the utmost in customer service, with the most homely twist provided by superb hosts Charlotte and Jerome. We were made to feel so welcome right from the start, and our first holiday abroad with our baby son could not have been made easier. From the vineyards to the trips to the chateaux, the local area has a whole world of attractions to offer. Charlotte's home-cooking far excelled any food we could have eaten out, and Jerome's wine tasting evening was a blast and very educational!! We will most definitely be visiting again as soon as we can, and look forward to seeing La Famille Field again!!

This place is absolutely fantastic. We stayed here on the first night of our 4-day tour of the Loire valley... in hindsight we wished we'd stayed here for the entire trip! Jerome & Charlotte are so nice and seemed to have endless time to talk with guests about the region, wine, places to go etc. They've renovated the chateau brilliantly (in-keeping with the history of the building, but also with some added modcons/luxuries). The room we stayed in was fabulous. I couldn't recommend Loire Valley Retreat highly enough. We'll definitely be returning.

One tip if you are going, make sure you've got comprehensive directions and a detailed map; it's in a very rural, but beautiful, location!

Well, what can I possibly say to highlight the experience created by Charlotte and Jerome at the Loire Valley Retreat? From the moment you arrive until the second you leave everything was of the highest standard and the warmest welcome.

Charlotte is a magician, nothing can explain how much is done for you at the Chateau, the perfect balance of self catering and being looked after is achieved here. Rooms are serviced everyday, a stunning breakfast produced and if you wish Charlotte will cook the most amazing meals for you every night of the week, We highly recommend the Goats Cheese tart! If you choose to make your own meals blink and your dishes have been cleared freeing you up to enjoy one of Jeromes fabulous wine tasting evenings. Nothing is too much trouble from advice on where to visit, diagnosing chicken pox and throwing a Party for the kids. We alI felt well and truly pampered

Thank you both again, next time we are bringing a trailor to carry home more of the fabulous wine collection, see you again soon

A delightful experience. Jerome & Charlotte were most accommodating, informative & charming hosts. They made us feel like their personal guests, not as simply customers. They have taken an ancient country estate, saved the best character of the place, and renovated the guest quarters in a very luxurious modern style. They prepared a lovely home-cooked meal, with local wines, our first evening, which we enjoyed with good conversation about the history & culture of the area. Breakfasts were excellent, too. Our room was huge; the ensuite bathroom alone was larger than most European hotel rooms!
Very relaxing place to spend a few days. Note: it is out in the country, so you do end up driving some distances to Loire valley attractions, restaurants, etc.
