Hotel Diderot is a charming spot with a staff that truly cares about your experience. Do not be alarmed by the two-star rating--you will receive five-star service. The terrace is a wonderful place to relax with coffee or a cocktail, especially when the roses are blooming. Be aware that you will have to walk up rather steep steps, but just consider it penance for all the good food and drink available in the Loire Valley.

Bonsoir Franklin,
Thank you very much but 5 stars is a bit much! we are a family, in the tradition of French accommodation.
But it's nice to know that the choice to keep the spirit of family is stronger than the "modes".
The most important for us is to have you captivated in this beautiful region of the Loire Valley
Merci beaucoup
Laurent

From the moment we saw the rose decked courtyard we knew this was hotel tended with loving care. The welcome was friendly and the room in the main house was was spotless and colourfully furnished with an immaculate new bathroom. The location is great for exploring Chinon and is very quiet. The breakfasts are lavish, with an infinite range of homemade jams, fruit, cheese and fresh baked breads. It is lovely to sit on the small flower decked terrace enjoying a pre dinner drink.Three nights here were a delight.

Bonsoir Peter
Thank you for this lovely comment. Your satisfaction is a great reward for our team that accompanies us for several years.
Of course I claim the work of the garden and jams, but without all the "little hands" working with us I'm not much!
Now the garden took its summer colors and fragrances of roses are always powerful, in addition to jasmine.

I organized a group of 17 (16 Americans, 1 Englishman, plus an Anglo-French group leader) that stayed at the hotel for 1 week. As the organizer, you your research ahead of time because you want everyone to have a good time. And guess what - we did!
A traditional, family run hotel in an historic. pedestrian friendly, lovely town. The hotel itself has a long and wonderful history (shared for our group by co-owner Laurent), but the comfort level of our room was totally contemporary, and our bathroom was ultra-modern. No cookie cutter rooms, as all are unique - vive la difference!
As mentioned in many other reviews, the hotel makes a cornucopia of different jams which complement the variety of breads on hand. Cherry jam was made while we were there and I got to try my hand at pitting cherries. The fresh jam appeared on my table for the next morning's breakfast. But I let the hotel know in advance that my wife could not eat sugared jams, so the hotel went out of its way to have no sugar-added compote on hand just for her!!!
There is a nice garden terrace on hand - perfect for an afternoon beverage before walking to a nearby restaurant for dinner.
We loved this hotel and highly recommend it.
Thank you Francoise and Laurent (and cat Boubi!) for a truly delightful stay!

The three-night stay at Hotel Diderot in Chinon was the highlight of our three-week trip in France.
This is a beautiful small hotel in a lovely town. Laurent, his sisters, and their staff are all so caring.
We enjoyed our nice room, delicious breakfast, and all the restaurants that Laurent recommended!

On the morning we need to check out and catch the train, there was some kind of activities in town. We were not able to get a taxi, and one of the lovely ladies in the office drove her car to bring us to the train station! How cool/warm is that!!! (By the way, the train station is a easy 10 minutes walk from Hotel Diderot. With heavy luggages, you might need a taxi ride.)

Before this trip, We never heard of Chinon. Now thanks to everyone at Hotel Diderot, we promised ourselves that we will be back soon.

Room Tip: We stayed downstairs in room 20, at the end of the building. It's beautifully decorated, and qu...

We stayed two nights and had a lovely time. The owners are extremely pleasant and helpful and it is clear they love running this hotel. The rooms are very well appointed and quiet. You can park your car and easily walk into town each evening for dinner. The breakfast is lovely. The only trick was finding the hotel. We will definitely stay again and will also carry fond memories of our visit here.

These are the things we liked about this hotel:
1 . It is very close to the town centre so you can walk and have a drink with your evening meal and yet the hotel is as quiet as being in the countryside.
2. We stayed in room 20, this was a lovely room with comfortable bed, good shower and two sinks!
3. Really good wifi, no walking around trying to get a reception!
4. Loved trying all the jams for breakfast.
5. Did not have to worry about our bikes being safe as the hotel gates are locked at night.
6. Laurent and staff were all very keen to please and helpful.
Things we did not like:
Can't think of one thing we did not like!!!!

We stayed here for just one night. Arrived late with no booking and got the last room in an annex at the back. The room wasn't fancy, but was clean, quiet and very good value. I think the rooms in the main building are more modern, but we were happy with our accommodation. The location is very convenient for walking into the town centre for dinner.

Breakfast next morning was wonderful; good coffee and juice and a beautiful selection of breads and pastries. Plus 50 odd varieties of home made jam - my only regret was not being able to fit more in! We sat in the sunshine on the flower filled terrace in front of the hotel. One of those mornings that stays in your memory.

All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Bonjour bernieHC,
When you come to Chinon, you apreciated our beautiful city and like our hotel was full, you had chosen our last room in the annex. Thank you for your trust and your nice comment, which helps to inform travelers.
We are proud that your breakfast, especially served on the terrace, and 50 kinds of jams, will remain in your memory.
Please, give my regards to the nice city of Perth.
Best regards from sunny Chinon.
