We had stayed in Chinon with people for a week, and offered to take them for supper. This was their choice, and well worthwhile. I recommend sitting inside, as the atmosphere is much better than the open square. Most of the other people there seemed to be locals, and our hosts were regular visitors. We all had the E29.50 menu, which to me seemed to lack flavor, but I was told that they do not add salt due to the health problems now associated with salt. The flavors were natural. Mine was the skate and ratatouille starter, the duck main course, goats cheese, and then an iced dessert. A mistake was made with the wine, and after having finished half a bottle we were presented with a fresh bottle free of charge. A note re the Chinon white wines--most of them are quite dry. Total bill for four people with wine, E158.30.
